HI Teri,

Wow there seems to be more bi polars than I imagined--- we are strong and we

are beautiful

Yes mania can be wonderful--- it makes you walk on water or in my case about 4

feet off the ground. I have never been immoral or dangerous but I have shopped

and I can relate to the candle thing-- but candles are gorgeous and the light is

mesmerizing and who can have just one candle? And many have more than two-- and

there is something to be said about having ten lit up at once!!!! The odor is

intoxicating and the mood-light is as close to the light of a moon as we can

get.

So if all my rising is written under the influence of mania or depression as

in Plath's situation when she wrote THE BELL JAR then so be it.

The dark and moody side is only a visit to the abyss of more awareness. I do

not like being there but when I emerge I am always reinvented, reborn.

From what I know about bipolar (and I'm speaking for myself here) - there is

the down side (usually depression) and the upside. The upside tends to be

the mania as in for some the upside is extreme shopping, extreme anxiety,

extreme gambling or like Ann referred to - being extremely promiscuous -

something you do that is not the norm. Something you carry out way too far.

Anybody can jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong or maybe explain it

better because this is just from what I know.

My bipolar tends to be the depression mainly - crying uncontrollably, being

depressed for God only knows why. Then the upside for me is anxiety, not

just a little, but a lot. Thankfully my meds are helping in the anxiety

department.

And then I do tend to over do things; like I have a gazillion houseplants

and yard plants. I have 8 cats, 2 dogs and 2 birds. I can't just have one

candle - I have to have multiple candles. That kind of thing. But those

aren't harmful things (not that I know of anyway). Maybe that's OCD ;-)

Hey at least I'm not crying today - that's a really good thing.

Ann,

I think bipolar is talked about more these days because people are much more

knowledgeable about it, whereas before it used to be thought of a " you're

crazy " disease. In my case, I'm glad I finally know what it is - it helps

to put a label on it. Makes it easier for me when I know what I'm dealing

with AND how to go about dealing with it - like you said though,

responsibility is key.

I too, think that it's connected with all my chronic pain issues -

everything seems to go hand in hand. And you are 100% right about the

candles! ;-)
