Guest guest
Â Unwillingly Distant Fathers: Distant Healing WANTED: One `Unwillingly Distant Father' for one 30 minute interview. Are you an `unwillingly' distant father? Have you been separated from your children due to divorce, relocation, abandonment by your spouse, employment, or military service? Have you been accused of `wanting your freedom' just because you're a man? Do you experience isolation, and struggle with lawyers, family, and friends to have a voice? Have you experienced challenges in surviving the grief and loss which comes from being separated from your children? You are invited to participate in a research study on the lived experience of unwillingly distant fathers. This study is being conducted to allow me to meet the requirements of the doctoral program at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, CA. This research project is an attempt to (understand / describe / expose) the lived experience for distant fathers who are not distant from their children by choice. At this stage in the research, the lived experience of unwillingly distant fathers will be generally defined as the role of spiritual practice in surviving distant fatherhood. To accomplish this you will be asked to respond to the questions to the best of your ability. You will have an opportunity to express what the experience of being an unwillingly distant father has meant for you on a personal and spiritual level. The procedure will consist of one (1) interview of approximately 30 minutes duration. For the protection of your privacy, all information received will be kept confidential. Your identity will be protected through the use of a pseudonym. The researcher will have sole access to identifiable data. The information will be kept locked up in a secure location. The data and your identity will be kept separate, to preclude anyone from connecting the data with you. Any transcription of materials will be conducted only after the transcriber has signed the attached Transcriber Confidentiality Agreement. It is the hope of the researcher that participation in this interview will be personally meaningful for you. The anticipated benefits of participating in the study include a normalizing of the experience of being an unwillingly distant father, an opportunity to tell your story and be heard, and the satisfaction of participating in a study that may lead to further support and voice for unwillingly distant fathers. There are no anticipated risks for participating in the study. I will provide you with the appropriate referral resources, such as a list of local therapists, in the event that discomfort arises because of participation in the study. If you have any concerns about potential risks as a result of participating, please do not hesitate to discuss them with me. If you have any questions or concerns about the process you may call me at (360) 920-7047 (confidential line), or contact me via e-mail at kipp.trembley@..., and you may also contact my chairperson, Professor Mark McCaslin by phone at (970) 881-3407 or by email at mmccaslin@.... All participation in the research study is totally voluntary, and no pressure has been applied to encourage participation. You may decide to withdraw at any time during its conduct, without penalty or prejudice. More participants will be accepted in a later stage of the study. Please contact Kipp Trembley at 360-920-7047. Kipp D.
