I got a porcelin one myself, but as I've become a ginger-addict I find I like the pieces a little bigger. The regular graters aren't of very good quality, but rasps come in all sizes etc. Another tip: ginger keeps really well in alchohol. I haven't tried freezing it: someone once said not to (I don't know why, maybe it gets mushy, which you wouldn't care about in most applications).
