OH, and Joyce. I have a personal story about the growth hormones, I have a best friend whose third son, a late entry by her second husband, developed leukemia at the age of five. (quite possibly from vaccines!) Her other two sons were teenagers by then. He went thru hell and the drugs and chemo for many years, and almost died his 8th Christmas. He had alot of emotional, eating and panic conditions that he weathered, not always graceously. But was a very unique and gifted, but challaging human child. At the age of 12/13, they considered the hormones for his growth. He was pretty short and very skinny, and not developing normally on the pubescent scale. At 15 he still looked to be about 10. But their insurance would not pay for all of it...so already medically and financially stressed, they opted out. Her son hated shots in the first place, as being so overwhelmed with medical

proceedures anyway. He was always too sick to have anymore vaccines, after kindergarten. There was a lot of excitement when his facial hair (peach fuzz) started to come in at age 16. His condition has remained in complete remission since age 11. No more spinals, no more drugs (except his anti-depressant - he still has angst and nightmares sometimes, fears and panic attacks) <sigh> (Says he will never take another shot for any reason or any amount of money.) He had severe seperation anxiety all thru school, but was always on the high honor roll, and never had to skip a year. Some parts of some school years he missed alot of days, being off sick. (difficult as mom had to work). He had some special needs, and mom often requested schools out of district, where he could stay in a place with teachers and halls and school rooms he was comfortable with. They moved

around into a few different apartments over the years. He slept in his parents bed wayyyy past any normal or acceptable age. At age 12, he still had some small remnant pieces of his first baby blanket, he just could not part with. He took good care of his hampsters, beagle and deaf fluffy white cat. He was a horder of things, and everything had to be in the right places..organized. He appeared extremely odd and shy and withdrawn to those who did not know him or of his condition or history. But he was actually a lot of fun, giggly, very clever, curious, questioning, always adult-like in his speech and command of his verbage and dealings, even before the cancer. He had a quick wit, and high intellect. His food existed of macaroni and cheese, and some cheese/pepperoni pizza that he only licked the pepperoni off, but never ate. Plain hot dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches. An occasional Mcdonalds meal... And Fruit

Loops! GAWD. Finally today, he eats many good foods, vegs as well as fruits. And Vitamins. He even bought a home gym set at age 17, and worked those biceps to death. But he was Growing!. Up and Out! Not a stick figure any longer. And he grew inside too. At some point, he even dyed his hair blonde (his hair is brown) and put streaks in it. Cut it in bizaar ways. Short to very long. He liked his hair, after going so many years with a hat on, and no hair or eyebrows. But he has mananged to survive it all so far, and now, at the age of 22, he appears to be a normal enough young man, getting through school, .... teenhood, pimples, building self-esteem and faith in himself, got thru that lankiness stage, learning to drive, a computer wiz, having girlfriends, asking his mom to teach him to DANCE!, a tattoo and a few piercings, (Owwie), self-learning to play the

guitar well, and being in a band, with a pretty good voice. He is going on to college and holding jobs. And discovering BEER, lol. But he is finding his way. His way. He thinks he's a pretty cool dude! And he IS! Just ask him, lol. He has come a long way. He is 6'2" today. His dad is 6'6". Hate to think what may have happened to his growth if he had taken the hormone therapy. So give it some time, and alot of thought. One never knows how we will end up being, as grown-ups. Or any success stories. Just thought I would share that. Glad Day ~ Karla in IL
