Guest guest
Sara I am Ann and never have had any neck or back surgery but live in pain which I deal with-- I get steroid injections for it and these drugs will blow you UP honey! I have gained over 60 pounds on steroids since I have been getting the epidurals over 3 years now. First info - I had back surgery last September to repair a herniated disc that was laying on my nerve and causing severe pain in back, hip, leg, for 6 weeks. They did surgery because I had considerable nerve damage. During July and August, I went through 2 packs of oral steroids (the 2nd was 3 times stronger than the 1st), 2 injections (the first was the most painful thing I've ever experienced and did not work at all, the 2nd was better cuz they gave me 2 xanax beforehand and it worked about 55%), then I had a heavy steroid through IV right before surgery. My questions: I still have pain if I do a little bit of just about anything, is this normal? And if I do too much, the pain stays around the rest of the day. There is kind of a lump on my back right above where they cut, is this normal? I have been dieting for 6 weeks and have not lost any weight, is this normal with all the steroids I had and how long do they stay in your system? They said my nerve could take a year to heal - my left leg is still very weak and still gets numb. Well, I've been sitting in this chair too long, I'm starting to hurt! Thank for all the help...........Sara ------------------------------------

Guest guest
Sara, I had neck surgery last October. Â Most of my pain is gone. Â I say get a second or third opinion until you get an answer you feel comfortable with. Â Before I had surgery I tried acupuncture. Â It really did help, however the pain was so severe I still needed surgery. Â If I had more residual pain from surgery, I would definitely go back to them. Â If you do decide to use one, ask around for names. Â I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Sara - What kind of surgery did you have? Was it a decompression? I had L2-S1 decompression back in September of 2010 and it was very successful for relieving sciatica but did not relieve my lower back pain. It will not do anything for that kind of pain and I too have ongoing chronic back pain still. My understanding is if it was a fusion you should expect lower back pain relief too. I too feel a " lump " at teh top of my surgery site - I think it is just scar tissue, but not sure. I am very careful about how many steroid injections (or any kind of injections) I allow because of the risk of arachnoiditis, which can occur becasue of repeated injections. I have never taken steroids for any of this. I wonder what the steroids were for? there are many opinions when it comes to reducing inflamation (steroids primarily reduce inflamation) - my surgeon believes that inflammation is part of the healing process and should not be limited, I know others do not follow this belief. and I too start to hurt from sitting...or moving, or standing, or lying in one place...ugh! prayers for pain free days!
