I hate to answer this question because everyone is different so keep that in

mind.

So here goes. The reason I stopped taking Lexapro (a year this month) is due to

weight gain.

BUT it might not affect you so try it and see.

New here.

I have a question...

I am on weight watchers and have been losing weight sucessfully.

Does anyone here know if Lexapro will cause weight gain?

I have filled my prescription of Lexapro for the first time.

A few years ago i was on Zoloft and i had some weight gain...

Thanks in advance,

Kitty

I've had no weight gain with Lexapro (in 7 months),

but it does make me hungrier sometimes. Regular

exercise helps with both anxiety and weight-related

side effects from meds, so I recommend it!

Welcome Kitty.

I am a lifetime member of WW. I think wight gain is a common side

effect of most SSRI's. I don't think they actually make you gain

weight, but they might cause hormonal changes that make you hungrier.

I saw one other person post that she is hungrier on Lex. I also

noticed that I was hungrier when I was on Paxil.

For me it was kind of a self-fulfilling prophesy. I knew Paxil was

known to cause weight gain, so I didn't fight it and used it as an

excuse to indulge.

If you are diligent about your journaling you will be fine.

Hey newbie,

I'm a newbie too. I agree with the hormonal explanation for weight

gain, that SSRIs tend to play with your hormones, which makes you

eat more and gain weight (then again, some people don't eat more and

they gain weight anyway, since the drugs slow down your metabolism).

I've also noticed from my research thus far that more women gain

weight than men, or at least make more noise about it. Any thoughts?

Hi Everyone.

My name is Liz and I just joined the group a few days ago,

thought I would introduce myself.

I'm a 37yr old dog groomer that has had to take a few months off

from work for a second neck surgery.

It has been 8wks since surgery, today.

My last dr. appt was last wk

and I was told that everything appeared to be healing right on track

(this time, so far)...

The surgery was for a ruptured cervical disc that was causing spinal

stenosis w/ myolapathy. This was the 2nd neck surgery for me.

The 1st one being 9yrs ago....

which the doctor discovered 'the 1st surgery never healed' when he

went in to do the second one, eight weeks ago.

So, he actually ended up doing a 'double fusion'

He said that the 1st thing he saw was that all of the screws had

broken off of the hardware on the 1st fusion. And that the bone was

not fused.

I was a smoker...but have not picked one back up since this last

surgery. They said that the smoking more than likely had something to

do with the failure. So its been a TUFF 8wks. I still want one....

Anyway, I'm no stranger to neck OR BACK problems. lol

I also have a 'Herrington Rod' in my upper spine that was placed there

when I was 12yrs old. I have double curved scoliosis.

I have now started having alot of lumbar pain (curved pretty bad, but

no rod) but I'm not sure that I'm ready to address that issue with the

dr.s yet as I'm sure that there IS something going on there.

I can just tell....

Hopefully it will help having others to talk to, and hopefully can

help others with my own experiences. So glad I found your group!

Thank you for letting me join.

Liz

curve to my neck and i am a big mess also from the misalignment. i do

Hi Liz,

I just joined the group as well, I breed persians and groom them. Do

you just do dogs ?

I had hurt my back a while ago and then decided it would be smart to

shave 6 kitties on one day, which normally I have no problems doing but

my back thought otherwise as that was its downfall and after that am

now in the pickle I am in now. I am waiting for a discectomy as have a

fragmented disc that is compressing my cord. I feel a bit daft as

that was what finsihed ot off.
