Vitamins A & D in pregnancy

I was sitting in my chiropractor's office last week, reading the Parents

magazine. In there it said that to much vitamin A & D can cause birth

defects. I take pre-natal vitamins and cod liver oil everyday. Do you

think I'm over doing it by taking the cod liver oil too? From the

sounds of some of the other posts, I almost wonder if the pre-natal

vitamins are just ending up in my colon anyways. Perhaps I should ditch

those instead.

Hi Worried pregnant mom, Robin:

Did they also mention that too little vitamin A can also cause birth

defects, such as a child being born without eyes?

Hi Mom to be,

Be sure to read the articles written for woman at

wwww.westonaprice.org. I think they may answer a lot of your

questions.

All my best,

Sheila

Robin,

you might want to change to 'fish oil' instead of 'cod liver oil' this

should eliminate the possibility of a vit A & D overdose. Also visit Dr.

Mercola's site (http://www.mercola.com/) search 'pregnancy' 'vit A & D' etc.

There's plenty of info there. check Krispin's site too re vit. D

Parents magazine seems to me to pretty much toe the party line,

i.e. they're a very politically-correct rag, and anything put out by

organizations like the ADA, AAP, CPSC, USDA, etc., is accepted

and printed as gospel. I would take anything I read in there with

a huge grain of salt. Every time I've read Parents, I ended up

rolling my eyes in disgust over the articles and noticing they

seem to be heavily suuported by advertising from companies

that I think are perpetrating evil, and I'm convinced that heavily

influences the editorial content (of just about any publication).

That said, I think synthetic or extremely concentrated forms of

some vitamins can indeed cause problems, but if you're taking

mainly food-based forms of these vitamins I doubt if there's the

potential for trouble (just don't eat polar bear liver).

Dear Chi, Sheila, and Dedy:

Thanks for your replies. I will have to look into your suggested

sources. It seems to me I did read somewhere about the lack of vitamin

A and the no-eyes scenario.

Thanks again!

Robin
