Guest guest
Am reading the book " Lights Out " , and thought I'd direct some questions here since some folks here have been reading it. Fascinating stuff! Now to put the principles into practice. First I'm questioning whether we really need to be simulating sleeping in a cave. I thought we evolved to sleep out in the open under the stars and moon, and we'd be exposed to that light all night. Maybe that natural nighttime light at least isn't the " green " light of day that she warns against (in the form of green LED's, etc.). Maybe for light in the evening we should use lightbulbs that are in the reddish range? Also, I wonder what happens in the morning when you're sleeping in a room that allows no natural light. Isn't it important to be exposed to the dawn light while you're still asleep, in order to suppress melatonin so you can wake up? Or is it enough to sleep as long as you can in darkness, then get your hit of melatonin-suppressing light as soon as you wake up? I rather like waking up to the light of day, and it feels like a more gentle way to awaken. But I'm following the advice in the book as far as I can, to see how it affects me. Since using an eye mask I am sleeping better, and am planning to get " blackout " drapes to complete the creation of my cave. -
