Guest guest
Saturday, August 12, 2006 What vaccinations do new students need for school? By Staff Reporter Published: Thursday, August 10, 2006 6:41 PM CDT Victor /vgarciadi@... Parents whose children are starting elementary school need to make sure their children are up to date on vaccinations. By age two it is recommended children have four doses of Deptheria/Tetnus/Pertussis vaccine, 3-4 doses of Haemophilus Influenza type B, four doses of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, which protects against bacterial meningitis; three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, three doses of the polio vaccine, one dose of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine, and one dose of the varicella vaccine (chicken pox). This is according to Ann of the Kern County Department of Public Health’s childhood immunization program. By Kindergarten age, usually between 4-6 years of age — if a child’s parent follows the above recommendations — a child would need a Polio booster, a DTP booster and a second dose of the MMR vaccine. “If they were not up to date, they may need additional vaccines but their provider or the clinic will determine what they need,” she said. said there are some exceptions. “Once a child goes to a clinic, the clinic will determine how many doses (a child should receive).” “They can’t start school without the proper immunizations,” she said. The school will require an immunization record. For more detailed information on immunizations, the California Immunization Handbook can be obtained at http://www.dhs.ca.gov/dcdc/izgroup/handbook.htm. http://www.ridgecrestca.com/articles/2006/08/10/news/news05.txt _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
