Prior to that I was on an evaporated milk/ corn syrup formula. The Mom cutting out pasteurized/homogenized milk is a good idea but it could be something else in her diet. Is this a July born baby? Colic in Cancerian babies is common due to the sign's connection to the stomach. Camomile tea is helpful to colic. Mom might try some but anyone with hay fever shouldn't because the plant is so closely related. Mints and fennel good for gas. Guest guest
Cutting out gassy foods like cabbage and spicy foods helped me when nursing. Guest guest
Hi , I submitted a message about breast feeding for you, but the title did not come up " colic " as I had planned. Just read the message about pasturization that appeasrs before this message and you will find it. Sorry, I am still learning how to move information around. Guest guest
Sally Fallon suggested on this list quite a while ago that increasing the good fat content of the mother's diet could help colic in breastefd babies, meaning fat from dairy (non-homogenized, at least, preferably raw of course), from meats (not processed meats), coconut oil, olive oil. My son had colic, and I tried every suggestion I came across at the time - that was before I was aware of the WAPF info. I tried eliminating the foods commonly fingered as problematic - dairy (which at the time was organic, non-homogenized, not raw, not grassfed), wheat, cruciferous veggies, garlic, etc., none of that made any impact. I tried giving him camomile and fennel. Nothing. The only thing that seemed to help was acupressure. We learned a few techniques from someone we know, and made a routine of doing it every day just prior to his typical colicky period, and he was much happier in the evenings after that. He grew out of it a couple weeks later. Aubin
Guest guest
Hi Aubin, Do you remember what accupressure points you used? Guest guest
In the celiac group, colic happens sometimes in babies that are allergic to something the mother is eating (like wheat). Really! There was a long discussion about it, including some viewpoints from a doctor on the list -- a LOT of women experienced this. Of course, finding out what the Mom is eating that bothers the baby is a rather tedious process! Adding probiotics to the baby's diet will likely help too. Probiotics work really nicely for babies. A bit of kefir, perhaps? -- Heidi At 01:45 PM 7/22/2002 -0700, you wrote: >I have a friend of a friend with a new baby with colic.
