Hi Rochelle

I developed problems with the SSRI's too-(cymbalta)- elevated BP, blurring

vision and other things.

I took myself off and those problems resolved.

Unfortunately depression returned from the daily chronic pain.

My Naturopath recommended a good quality St. 's Wort herbal supplement 2- 3

times a day- said it acts like the SSRI's but without the pharmaceutical side

effects.

So have started taking it and feel okay- no side effects .

Just a suggestion.

you can read about it on the internet.

Nocturnal Polyuria caused by medication

Hi Everyone,

For the past 9 months, I've had a problem that I've seen many

doctors for and none of them have been able to help me. I started

waking up several times at night with something similar to panic

attacks. My heart was pounding, my blood pressure was up, my mouth

was dry as a desert and I had to urinate (although that didn't seem

important at the time) I thought it was from the Celebrex I was

taking for my neck pain. So I stopped the Celebrex which improved my

symptoms but my Rhumatologist kept trying me on other NSAIDs, like

Ibuprofen and Mobic. Same thing happened each time so I gave up on

the NSAIDs (of course my neck pain got worse). The nighttime problems

were better but never went away. In fact they've been getting worse.

So I saw an Endocrinologist and had to do a 24 hour urine collection

to be checked for stress hormones etc.,which were all normal) But the

main thing was, I finally realized I'm urinating way more at night

than during the day. This is called nocturnal polyuria and is the

opposite of what is normal and indicates that hormones effecting

urine formation in the kidneys are out of whack. (And I guess I could

go back to the Urologist and he could give me someting to treat it.)

At present, everything--my blood, heart, kidneys, and glands, like

thyroid and adrenals are normal--so what's wrong with me?

Well I think I figured it out! When I did a web search of " labile

blood pressure and nocturnal polyuria " up popped all the SSRIs--the

antidepressants such as Zoloft, which I was taking. Apparently there

are lots of meds that can cause nocturnal polyuria and I was taking

the two that are the worse--a SSRI and a NSAID!!! It's been a week

since I've stopped the Zoloft and feel better than I have in a long

time. But I'm still not back to normal. I read it will take at least

another week.

I'm wondering how widespread this problem is. Are doctors not

aware of it? So, I'd like to ask, does anyone else have these kinds

of symptoms--especially the urinating too much at night along with

the rise in blood pressure at night-- and if you do, what kind of

medications are you taking? Have you been to a doctor about it? And

what did he/she say?

Thanks,

Rochelle
