Guest guest
Hi all, This may sound odd, but I've only been to a pool a couple times since my lumbar fusion and neck fusion, in which I had a lot of metal implanted for both surgeries. I had lost a lot of weight, and I was sick with gallbladder problems, I was down to 90 pounds. I complained to my sister that when I tried to swim, I couldn't even float-she's a very experienced swimmer, almost made the Olympics. She said it was because I had no fat in my body. Well, this past weekend, my husband and I had a one-nite getaway at a casino, dinner, show, nice room, and heated pool. I tried floating again, since I now weigh 108. My body still sank. My husband is a good swimmer, he tried watching me to see what I was doing wrong, trying to get me to relax. I didn't even want to try to swim any other strokes, I've always been lousy at swimming, great at floating. I still sank. Could it be the hardware in my back and neck? I also have titanium in both my knees from knee replacements. I'm embarrassed to ask anyone outside this group, for one thing, most people don't understand what's involved in A/P lumbar fusion and a neck fusion. After a couple years, it's still hard for me to turn my neck to the side to look at someone next to me, it's easier to turn my whole body towards them. Does anyone with hardware in their back and neck have problems swimming, or am I nuts? Sincerely, Jeannie
