Guest guest
Hello Beverley, I live in Marble Falls, just out side of Austin. I had a LTHR 5 weeks ago by Dr. Don in Austin. On my first visit he told me that I was to get a polyethylene insert and a steel ball with cement, because I was 70 years old. When I came in for surgery he changed it to ceramic on ceramic without cement. He had read my makeup sheet that showed my parents were both 90 years old and very active. He said that the polyethylene insert was good for about 10 years. I was cleared for 100 percent load bearing the next day; I am walking with out a cane not much pain and limping a little bit. Yesterday I walked all over the new Whole Foods store. (big) You might want to get a second opinion . Bobby Hi Everybody, What a great group! My name is Beverly. I'm 51 years young. I live in Austin, Texas. And, I'm scheduled for a THR revision of the left hip April 12th of this year. My doctor is s Jr. in Dallas. The original THR was done October of 1993 by the same doctor. I'm having it revised because the cup has dislocated from the pelvis. There is osteolysis caused by the wear of the polyethylene insert. I have been on crutches with toe touch only for the left leg since December so I'm almost looking forward to April 12th. My questions to the group are: How much easier is the revision versus the original THR? I was on six weeks of no weight bearing for the first one and I if I remember right I was in bed except for several hours a day for at least three, maybe four weeks. Is this still the recommended recovery? And, is there any increased range of movement with the newer technology of the prothesis? It's still a couple weeks till my final visit with the surgeon I want to get my questions in order. Thanks in Advance, Beverly in Austin

Guest guest
: I used the " patch " to quit smoking a couple of years ago. It really made it easier for me to quit. I think the secret is to put the patch on in the morning and do not take it off until the following morning. Using the patch can give some folks strange dreams but I took 1/2 a dose of exedrin p.m. or sominex every night to get a decent sleep. I use the money I would have spent on cigarettes to go on fabulous vacations now.... I have the money automatically deposited to a special " travel " account and it really adds up! Good luck on quitting! Sharon
Guest guest
I quit about one month before surgery. It was tough. I started out using the generic cheapy patch. It kept falling off so at about the 4th day, I just quit cold turkey. I think my weight when I quit was 274 and the day of surgery it was 280. So I did gain weight but I have to say probably 3 of that was splurging on food the 3 days we took to drive to Mexico. Tee hee! Guest guest
Hello there, I just realised that I had not caught up with you with regard to my trying to get into an Activity Based Programme Rehabilitation course Well praise God I got into the programme and have found it pretty good, though I still would like to have an MRI Scan done on it as I am not happy at how my back is at the moment, somedays I am having trouble getting up in the morning as my back is pretty bad. On the better side of my back situation, I had a workplace assessment done to see where I could be helped in my job, to make it easier on my back. It was pretty good with getting a new office chair, flat Screen Monitor, and a new ergonomic Office Table. God Bless You Always Jodie
