Ok, since this has all been speculation and the question gets asked a lot,

I peered down the horses mouth and asked the Ball folks directly. Here is

their response.

Dear Heidi:

Thank you for your message. Our jars do not contain lead. Even if they did,

the lead would not be leached out during the canning process. You can

safely use home canning jars.
