Dear Washington NVIC Advocacy Team Members,

Thank you to each and every one of you for all your work and perseverance

in fighting this bill! It hasn't gone unnoticed. The

Governor's advisor told us that there has been " a lot of

traffic " about this bill and I do believe we have their

attention. The key now is just to keep their attention to really

push toward a Governor's veto! She is scheduled to take action on

this bill this Tuesday! So, please don't delay! Please send

faxes, make phone calls, and/or send emails on Monday!

Please contact the Governor and her advisors -- asking for a veto on

ESB 5005. Please also contact your own Senator and Representatives

-- asking them to contact the Governor and ask for a veto because they

were misled about the facts of this bill.

SB5005 was based on the faulty premise that low vaccination rates

exist because of the vaccine exemption process in Washington when in fact

the rates used by bill proponents included several vaccinations not even

required by WA State law. Naturally, if the vaccine isn’t required, the

overall total rates will be lower.

The reality is that vaccination rates for all age groups (19-35 month

olds), kindergarteners and 6th graders for state required vaccines are

quite high and there is no problem with vaccine exemptions affecting

rates for required vaccines. Remember, a vaccine exemption is not

needed and will never be used for a vaccine that is not required.

US Average statistics:

MMR 1 dose: 90.0 – WA is higher

PCV 4 doses: 80.4% - WA is higher

Hep B (birth): 60.8% - WA is higher

NOT REQUIRED IN WA:

Hep A 2 doses: 46.6% - WA higher

Rotavirus: 43.9%

TOTAL ON TABLE USED BY PROPONENTS OF ESB5005:

Vaccine series (modified)/Table totals: 70.5%

Washington State Statistics:

MMR 1 dose: 90.8%

PCV 4 doses: 82.2%

Hep B (birth): 70.1%

NOT REQUIRED IN WA

Hep A 2 doses: 52.3%

Rotavirus: 20.9%

The rates above addressing toddlers were used to fool legislators into

believing restricting exemptions on school age children were necessary

when those rates have nothing to do with school children and they are

calculated using some vaccines Washington doesn’t even require.

A huge thank you to Karl Kanthak for all of his hard work behind the

scenes opposing this bill! The attached chart was put together by

Karl to clearly illustrate how legislators were deceptively misled with

non-applicable vaccination rates to scare legislators into restricting

parental rights and passing this bad bill. Thank you, Karl!
