Guest guest
First, I went through the first 1000 messages on this list Friday. What an amazing reference this list has. Butter making was discussed with one very interesting story of making butter while jumping on a 'trampoline'. We made our second batch. Tried to use the small electric ice cream maker. two hours into it and no butter. My wife decided to rock the machine back and forth. In less than ten minutes we had butter. We stopped, possibly a bit too soon. The bitter was a bit softer, but we had buttermilk. It was strained off and put in a separate container. Taste is OK but it is not as yellow as the last batch. Both were made from heavy whipping cream, not from fresh raw cream, so it seems kind of odd they were different, unless that has to do with stopping the process a bit too soon. We did wash this butter, as did earlier posters to the list. We have also ordered our first lot of kefir grains and joined the kefir list, and we have a batch of cabbage being made into sauerkraut . Our leap into NT has happened. Mike
Guest guest
I think that was me, my first butter making attempt on my rebounder. It also worked much faster than any I made after in the kitchenaid mixer. I don't have access to raw cow's milk any longer ) : so my butter making is at an end for now. The biggest problem I had when I was making it though was getting it totally rinsed. I would get it (the rinse water) as clear as I could but found that I still could not leave it out of the refrigerator without it getting spoiled milk tasting though it was fine for a long time in the fridge. Congratulaions on your leap into NT--it's lots of fun. -- p.s. If anyone knows of someone with a cow who'd be willing to sell raw milk & /or cream somewhere around Yakima Washington could you please let me know (@...) -----Original Message----- From: meuritt@...
