i bought a new jar of this recently (i use it for sunbathing) and noticed

the label had changed. i didn't think anything of it until i opened it -

WOW! it smells soooo coconutty and good, i wanted to eat it! my previous jar

didn't have a very strong nor appealing smell. so i wondered if they've

changed the processesing or something...? i know it's been discussed and

tropical traditions is considered to be the best by lots of folks and i

recall reading that spectrum refines or heats theirs to a high temp, IIRC.

So i just compared labels - my old jar to my new, and the old jar lists the

ingredients as " semi-refined " coconut oil BUT the new jar lists the

ingredients as " 100% expeller pressed UNrefined organic coconut oil. " it

also says " unrefined " on the front of the jar (unlike my old jar).

Sooooo...it smells really wonderful (compared to the old jar), lists the

ingredients as UNrefined and has a completely different label. seems like a

new product...or at least a different one.

This new one is not listed on spectrum's website, btw. does anyone think

this is a reasonably decent coconut oil?

btw, i ran out of olive oil when i was sauteing some pumpkin seeds so used

some of this new coconut oil. i liked the taste, but it seemed to smoke a

bit at medium temp, which my olive oil doesn't do. is this normal for

coconut oil? or is it indicative that it IS refined despite the label?
