Hep B Foundation Launches China Program Hepatitis B Foundation leaders traveled to China for the launch of HBF's new Gateway to Care public health program in Haimen City, China on April 8,2011. Haimen City has the highest incidence of liver cancer due to hepatitis B. This multi-year, citywide campaign aims to increase awareness among the one million residents, educate 1,000 providers, and test 5,000 pregnant women (and link all who are infected to medical care). The program is made possible by a $400,000 educational grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. Learn more. Telbivudine During Pregnancy Safely Reduces Perinatal HBV Transmission Transmission of the hepatitis B virus from infected mothers to their newborns is substantially reduced with telbivudine therapy during pregnancy, without any apparent adverse effects, a team in China has shown. Based on study results, the authors conclude that telbivudine " should be recommended in pregnant women who are at high risk of transmitting HBV infection to their newborns. " Learn more.
