Guest guest
Chris- >Does anyone have a recipe for whipped cream they'd like to share? I use some organic vanilla extract, saccharine, and raw Jersey cream, but I suppose honey would work if you don't want to use saccharine, and you could always scrape out a vanilla pod to avoid the alcohol in the extract. (You can also get vanilla extract in glycerin instead of alcohol, but I'm told it tastes awful.) -
Guest guest
Thanks . What ratio of cream to flavoring/sweetening do you use? Guest guest
Chris- >What ratio of cream to flavoring/sweetening do you use? Hmm... I'm not entirely sure, because I just pour a bunch of cream into a stainless steel bowl, but if I had to guess, I'm typically whipping a cup or so of cream and using the equivalent of five tablespoons of sugar in saccharine along with a hefty dose of vanilla extract. -
Guest guest
Chris- I should add that I _don't_ use Sweet & Low! It's a mixture of saccharine and dextrose, not pure saccharine. So far I've mostly used Necta-Sweet, which comes in pellets of varying strength mixing saccharine with socium bicarbonate, but I recently found a product called Hermesetas, which is pure saccharine in a pellet. So far I'm liking the Hermesetas better, but it is harder to crush and dissolve. You can find stores carrying Necta-Sweet at http://www.flavourcreations.com/nsloc.htm or you can order it online at Hocks Pharmacy at http://www.hocks.com/ which carries a couple sizes of the pellets. Hermesetas is available at http://www.hermesetas.com/ but I don't think any stores carry it here. I think saccharine is pretty much the on artificial sweetener which is close to guaranteed to be safe. Aspartame kills brain cells, sucralose causes IBD, cyclamates shrink the testes, and ace k may cause cancer. Stevia _might_ be OK, but it's a glycoside closely related to digitalis and thus is very likely bioactive, so I'd be very cautious about using it. -

What about the studies showing saccarine to cause cancer in rats? Even the package of sweet and low carries the warning label. chris ____ " What can one say of a soul, of a heart, filled with compassion? Guest guest
, Very interesting and thanks for your reply on the yogurt question I had. What is wrong with sweet and low? It is saccharine! --- Idol <Idol@...> wrote: > Chris- > > I should add that I _don't_ use Sweet & Low! Guest guest
Aspartame (Sweet Thing) is a great insecticide for ants. Just open the package, and leave it where you've seen ants. Progress isn't ALL bad. ;>) ----- Original Message ----- From: ChrisMasterjohn@... Sent: Saturday, August 17, 2002 7:09 PM Subject: Re: whipped cream recipe? Guest guest
I have an ant problem and have tried every thing but poison. I have cats and don't want anything toxic around. My ants just crawled on by the Equal. They don't like fabric softener. I don't think it kills them but they avoid it. Oh course fabric softener is not a good thing for cats either. My ants have no problems crossing chalk lines. They aren't fond of vinegar. I've had my greatest success with diatametaceous earth. I haven't won the war yet, but at least the battles are getting smaller. Margaret in MD > >>>>Aspartame (Sweet Thing) is a great insecticide for ants. Guest guest
- >What is wrong with sweet and low? It is saccharine! The saccharine's not a problem, but Sweet & Low is a mixture of saccharine and sugar. (The fine print calls it a mixture of " nutritive and non-nutritive sweeteners " , but I'd love to know what they consider nutritious about sugar. Better to say " a mixture of caloric and non-caloric sweetners " IMO. <g>) -
Guest guest
Suze, I just open the aspartame package and put it where the ants travel. It doesn't seem to kill them, but, apparently, it gets to the queen, and the colony dies off. It might take a week or two to notice that they've stopped coming.
