If a woman does weight lifting, her testosterone levels rise, and she becomes more " manly " in a way (which allows her to build muscle). I would imagine the same is true for men: the lifting produces MORE natural steroids. Which in a man wouldn't hurt his sperm count, I would think. But I kind of doubt, without birth control, that many women could do that kind of hard running. Most of the pioneer women in wagon trains were pregnant! If you watch those hunter/gatherer women they are usually pregnant or hauling a kid on one hip: so they did some lifting, but the high levels of hormones from pregnancy and lactation wouldn't be conducive to being a runner.
