past two months as a part of a campaign against this disease, announced

President Alan on Wednesday.

The Head of State affirmed that the massive vaccination program was extremely

important and had been a success.

" This is just as important as the economy's nine-percent growth, " said the

president.

During a ceremony at the government palace in Lima and in the presence of Hernán

Garrido-Lecca, the country's health minister, affirmed that the program

had been designed to invest in the country's future.

President , who recently lost his brother to a liver disease, stated that

vaccinating millions of Peru's people made sure the country was " well protected "

against cirrhosis and liver cancer.

" It's an excellent human investment, more than social because it directly goes

to the person's body - that is what I'm worried about. I hope we can continue

with many more campaigns, it would be the best riches we could leave, " affirmed

President .

" With this and a better educational system, the country will prosper. "

It was reported that the program cost approximately 69 million soles.
