Guest guest
Genotype should have been determined at the same time as your viral load. Some doctors...including mine, will tell you that the genotype is not as important as the number with it, 1, 2, 3, etc... I disagree however...I think the genotype is important, as it gives some indication as to how it behaves in your body. My son's pediatrician tells me that children with genotype B, tend to crave to crave sugar. (my son and I are both genotype B (1) ) And they are also carrying more omental fat than genotype A...who tend to be thinner, and have more difficulty eating. **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Guest guest
Your doctor would have to order the specific test to determine your genotype. If you got the viral load test, chances are they did the genotype. Did you get a copy of the report? If not, make sure you do and get copies of ALL your lab work each time. I don't keep them in any order, but I suggest you get a 3 ring binder and just keep them all together. I've been trying to scan them so I've got them stored in case I misplace the paper...who me? If they didn't do the test, request it. Guest guest
That's interesting. I'm 2b and it seems that all I've eaten on tx has been cake, candy, etc. I've always carried my fat (I'm pretty thin so there isn't much fat these days) in the belly area, but I think that's common with women, particularly after menopause. I believe the omentum (sp?) lies in that area. Even when food didn't taste good to me, I continued to eat. Like when I'm sick and can't taste, I continue to eat looking for the satisfaction that eating normally brings. Dorothy _____ From: Hepatitis C [mailto:Hepatitis C ] On Behalf Of Aprilcupcake@... Guest guest
I don't have a lot either...but when it's there..it's all around the middle. My son seems to accumulate regardless of what he eats. I wasn't as concerned about it before, but he doesn't seem to be growing much. He is ten, and should start entering into puberty, and hopefully some of that storage material will be used for growth, but he only lost his first tooth when he was nine...so he's a bit behind the curve. His doctor sees him once a month, so she can monitor everything. **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. Guest guest
Fran - I'm looking at one of the prescriptions for blood work that my liver doctor wrote for me. He just checks off which ones he wants that week. There is one listed called " HCV Genotype " and that is the one you should have had them do. Are you sure they didn't do it? Do you have copies of your blood test results? Dorothy Dorthy, I am very thin and I have had a full viral load done and still don't know my geno type. Guest guest
Knowing your genotype is helpful to your doctor in predicting the length of treatment you will need should you choose to do treatment. Genotype 1a and 1b and type 4 require longer treatment than type 2 and 3. Genotype 1 is more resistant to the treatment however it does not mean a person with type 1 will get sicker or get sicker faster. No one should start treatment without knowing their genotype. You can't get it checked after you start as there may not be enough viral material in your system to get an accurate test. Guest guest
I recently found out I tested positive for Hepatitis B.? I am wondering if there are any studies that would show a possible immunity to Hep C.? (?I also test?positive to Hep C)??My levels are at about 2,000,000 and I go in to a specialist March 3rd.? I have been a basket case and having panic attacks and depression.? I am guessing this response is common.. Thanks for any insight. Guest guest
, My heart goes out to you and I surely understand. I am not much help on information but other guys from this group are. I had crappy experience today to put it mildly, I went to the GI woman I will not call her a doctor. She made me so angry. My medicaid is ending March 1st so last week she put me though this liver biopsy crap for nothing. Tells me today well call me when you find out if you get insurance or not but in most cases they dont cover Hep C. Then she tells me I could call the drug companies to see if they would help after she tells me I have 1a/b genotype and will need 1 whole friggen year of treatment after she lead me to believe this was not the case the first week I went to see her ( when I still had medicaid coverage) Money is the only thing these quacksters hear and they are all with the dang drug companies. So with a 12,000,000 viral load or whatever it is lol I guess I just sit here and wait for it to take me over or do I completely quit my job and try to get back on medicaid. How sucky this feeling is. I thought I was finally doing something to help myself it was embarrassing enough then this quackster yells across the waiting room oh and be sure you use 2 types of birth control and before you get treatment make sure your not pregnant. That was very lovely so hince I come home my kids crying and hanging off me and all I want to do is go to bed and cry. I swear to god I am not letting this crap get me!! Even though the thought of 20 units of coke in my veins crossed my mind then I got mad at myself for that thought that got me in this mess in the first place. Well my crazy ex could not kill me (even though he tried) so I guess a stupid little virus should not bug me so much. I have a cousin told me just plead the blood and by his strips you will be healed! Good grief why did He let me get this in the first place if he was going to heal it lol. Ok I will just go to bed and shut my crazy ADD mind down for the night. I have never seen a poor doctor or any owners of pharmacies that are poor have you guys?? ha ha p.s. and NO I am not high!!! I just have a 3 month old born with health problems ( downs syndrome and other problems) a 3 year old with this crap also and I feel helpless to even do anything for myself or my kids right now and I have NO INSURANCE . Guest guest
, I totally understand the frustration. But don't freak out just yet. One way or another, you will get the treatment if you want it. Now that you don't have insurance, you'll probably need to switch to a county hospital system. Another option is to keep your eye out for clinical trials in your area. Different trials are constantly opening up all over the country, and I'm sure with a little perseverance and a little bit of luck, you will get the treatment if you want it. For now, the most important thing you really need to consider doing is making sure you aren't using any illicit drugs, and absolutely NO alcohol. I'm just now seven months clean and have almost been accepted into two different clinical trials but the clean time requirement is one year. So I'm more than half way there. Some trials only require six months clean so I'm ready to go just as soon as I find the trial that fits. This disease moves slow, so we all have a little bit of time to work this shit out. For now, get your rest, exercise regularly, and be good to yourself. The rest will fall in line when it's time. Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear about your situtation.? Please tell me your name so I can pray for you.? Re: Geno Type , My heart goes out to you and I surely understand.
