Thanks Reggie, I will continue to live in hope that Trent will one day

decide that he can shave himself (albeit with an electric shaver) that he

does not have to call/rely on his 'slaves' namely myself or his baby sister!

I will ditto Reggies' advice, do not give up on anything, our kids will

eventually do most things they need to - note need rather than what society

expects!

Keep smiling

Jan, mother of Trent 23yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder

Hello from an oldie!!? First I want to say " Happy Birthday! " to !!?

, it sure doesn't seem like that long ago when we first talked on the

phone!!? I'm sure he enjoyed his meal!!

I want to assure you parents of younger kids that what I read earlier is

true.....our kids reach maturity at a later time than other kids.? For

example:? my son is now 22 1/2....when he was 20, we saw the emotional

behavior of 14-15 year olds (lots of rebellion, hardheadedness, 'I don't

want to be seen with Mom' kind of stuff.)? .?? Now, he's more like a 16-17

year old in some ways (about girls!!) and even more mature when it comes to

being thoughtful to others.?

learned to read when he was a senior in high school..........for some

reason, he was not developmentally ready untill then to read (and the school

had long since quit trying).? We took him to Sylvan Learning Center for 3

1/2 years.........he went from a kindergarten level of reading to 4th grade

level!!!!!? He reads every thing now, mostly his Bible.? For a job

application, he said, " Tell them I can READ!! " ? So be patient.....don't give

up on reading.? Math is still the pits, but I can't afford Sylvan again!!

Our biggest accomplishment these days is his learning to shave........with a

regular razor!!? He decided that his electric razor didn't give him a close

enough shave.? After a week at camp this summer without shaving ONE time, I

had to sit him down in the bathroom with the shaving cream and a towel

around his shoulders and slowly shave him clean!!? After that, He kept

asking me to shave him, so I finally told him one day I'd do it if he would

put on the shaving cream.....(sensory issues with his hands...I didn't think

he'd do it!).......I was surprised to return to the bathroom to see his big

smile surrounded by white foam!!? The next time, I told him to put on the

shaving cream, do what he could do and I'd help with the rest.? I also told

him never to pull the razor sideways, that it would cut him bad.??

Yesterday, before church, I walked into the bathroom at his call.....there

he stood, my kid with shaving cream on his face, his mouth held just so,

wearing his boxer shorts & tee-shirt (just like my Dad did, just like

's father did) and carefully shaving his chin!!? I took a picture,

!!? It was one of those moments.....22 years ago, I NEVER thought he'd

be able to shave himself.....much less with a regular Gillette!!? A few

tears escaped...........

I don't post often......mostly lurk and read!? Just wanted to tell everyone

to hang in there!!

Reggie ( 22-DS)?? (30) (25) and 2 of the most beautiful

grandchildren in the world!!? Davy (2) and Ella (7 months)

Hi Debbie,

Good to see you checking in! Better even to read how well you are doing!!!

Over here things are going pretty well, I can say! Ever since the final "it's a go" has been said last Wednesday, my last doubts are gone and I feel so positive.

Posts like this one of yours are so important to keep that positive feeling!

Furthermore I am going to try to avoid hot drinks with/directly after meals. I think that might be a good thing to avoid my dumping troubles.

Thanks,

Isabella

Welcome back, Sara! I will look forward to checking out your reviews when I actually have uninterrupted time and energy to do so all at the same time... it ain't happening much lately. I haven't heard of the workout you did, is that one of her newer ones? I have that Sculpt, Tone, Reshape 10MS one and want to do it soon... like everything else.

Sounds like you've been doing really well!!! Way to go!!!!

Hi All, I've been MIA and it feels like I'm still behind. Maybe I'll be caught up with everything sometime next week! ;)My trip up north was pretty good, and relatively productive. I didn't get any walks in since it was cold and raining all weekend, but at least it was good weather for staying inside, heh. I also picked up a good recipe for chicken and wild rice soup that I want to make soon. I was glad I remembered to stay hydrated though, as I often end up with a killer headache when I'm away, from not drinking my water. Not this time, hooray! I came home very short on sleep, as even though I stayed up quite late all weekend, oddly I woke pretty early. I was feeling rested after a few days back home. I don't remember if I reported last week, so I'll back up to that – my light week.June 1st-5thMon – 10 Min Solution (10MS) – Kettlebell Fat BurnerTues – Walk off even more weight – Wed – 10MS – Tone Trouble Zones – Amy BentoThurs – Treadmoves – Total Body Sports Conditioning (tmill video)Fri – 10MS – Sculpt, Tone, Reshape – Amy BentoI actually enjoyed the faux-kettlebell workout on Fri, even though I used a dumbbell. Might be a good one for someone curious about kbells to get a taste without buying one. If anyone wants to know more about the exercises, here's my review:http://mybasementgym.com/?p=156's workout was okay, but nothing new, like Donna mentioned before. I don't think I was in a very mood though, so that didn't help. I like her Punch Up Your Walk a lot better, but here's more about the weighted belt workout:http://mybasementgym.com/?p=158I had a slow start after my long weekend, but got back to it on Tuesday, after sleeping in a lot, lol.June 9th-13Tues – Get Ripped Slim & Lean – Jari LoveWed – Prevention – Kickstart Your Metabolism – FreytagThurs – Get Ripped – Jari LoveFri – Beginner Treadmill Workout – discountworkouts.comSat – All Pump – Amy BentoI really, really enjoyed the Prevention Kickboxing workout, and the new treadmill workout, too. The treadmill workout was a lot harder than I anticipated, though I guess I didn't really have a lot of expectations, as I didn't preview it very much. And the prices on www.discountworkouts.com are great! I'm looking forward to trying more of their treadmill workouts – and will probably order some kickboxing and/or strength workouts from them after I watch some clips on youtube. Oh, and I liked Freytag so I'm doing 3 more of her workouts next week. I'm doing a lighter-heavier-lighter-heavier weekly rotation at the moment. My apologies for all of the links, but I'm too lazy to write abridged versions of my reviews right now, lol. ;) So for anyone interested in the details - Kickstart Your Metabolism - http://mybasementgym.com/?p=171Beginner Treadmill - http://mybasementgym.com/?p=179 Hope everyone has a great weekend!Sara

Hi ,

Thanks! Yeah, that's one of 's new kits - with the weighted belt. I liked

the Punch Up Your Walk (with the gloves) a LOT better than that one. Those are

the only two kits I have, and I probably won't be getting any of the remaining

four. If only she would release another Walk Kick workout...LOL. ;)

I liked both of Amy's 10MS workouts. But I like pretty much all of her

workouts, except for the complex ones, heh.

Sleep tight!

Sara,

Thanks so much for the review on Prevention Kick Start Your Metabolism. This one

is high up on my want list and its nice to know its a good one!

Sometimes with , I put on my ipod and just watch her with my own music. I

often bump up the intensity that way because I start add in my own music

appropriate moves. If she only knew I was walking away the pounds to her and My

Chemical Romance " Famous Last Words " ...I don't know what she would say!

Hi a,

You're welcome! :)

LOL about ! I have to be in a mood for her, and that day I really

wasn't but wanted to try her " new " one and see if she did anything different

based on the weighted belt. She didn't, lol. Plus, I think it was less intense

than say, her Slim Series and other new ones that kick it up a notch. I'll

always like her, I just don't seem to be reaching for her as much lately.

I can't help you with schools, but I will tell you that I am happy with the mood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing program for my son's reading comprehension problems. I was also very happy with the testing I had done at their Dallas office. They were very patient with both of my boys and they both enjoyed the testing! We are doing it on our own (we homeschool after many problems with our school) but we have also used a speech therapist to help us with it. V & V will help his writing eventually (I assume you mean the ideas of writing, not penmanship). My son with learning disabilities (not on the spectrum) will be using Cloud Nine Math from mood Bell. My son on the spectrum will use it also but I'm not sure he really needs it. He needs V & V the most. Then we will go back to Math U See, which I like for him because of the manipulatives. Not all kids are the same, but this is what I am doing. The mood-Bell center usually runs a half price special on testing in September if you are interested in that.We are also working toward independence!CarlaDear list mates:I have not been able to post for some time. I care for my son with ASD and my mother who was jsut recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I have been cathcing up on the most recent posts, and there are some great questions being asked! What reading programs do parents find work to teach a child with autism reading comprehension? Math? Writing?Thank you all for your help.Shygirl

Well folks, I think I'm finally getting near to catching up with all my email.

I've spent the past two weeks running around to different doctors for workers

compensation. Never anyone close, so of course it's an all day thing. But, I

have to do it or else lose coverage should I ever need it for more than meds.

It just amazes me how some " expert " can spend about 15 minutes with me and be

able to determine my true health status! According to the Internal Medicine

guy, I can do any kind of work that I want, despite the fact that they've

already determined I am about 60% disabled. This was for total permanent

disability. Thank goodness I don't have to depend on it for my financial needs!

Just stupid things he said, such as not being able to feel the edge of my liver.

That's because he never found it! He wasn't pressing in the right place, as my

liver is very enlarged right now, and he didn't go low enough. Also, my spleen

is now enlarged and that causes even more crowding. He also stated I had no

palmar erythema, but I do! My doctor chuckled wryly when he read that. He said

to turn my palms up and look at them and compare to his. Mine were red spotted

and his were nice healthy normal and even pink color. He couldn't find any

edema in my legs and feet despite the fact they are what is called 2+ pitting

edema! Just craaaaazzzy stuff! And, I don't know about you all, but when I

have to make one of these way out of town trips, it just wears me out completely

for at least a couple of days. I'd no sooner get to being back to MY normal

self and it would be time to take another trip!

So, some things got way behind such as laundry and email, LOL. Like I said, I

am almost caught up. I've tried to not bombard you with info posts as I'm

catching up, but I realize after the fact that I sometimes have sent too much,

and I apologize. Hopefully I'll be back to normal very soon.

Hugs, Sheree

palmar erythema, but I do!
