Guest guest
The leanness may be a factor as well as the frequency of nursing (!Kung San women nurse their children every 15 min. for a couple of min. if I remember correctly. Dettwyler is an anthropologist who has studied this in detail. She has a website you might want to check out for more information. I read her book and she went into detail on the spacing of pregnancies in relation to farmers who consumed grain and had a higher percentage of body fat, less number of years between birth, and compared them with modern day hunter gatherers such as the !Kung San tribe. piiimaman

And they mostly carried them around and nursed them for those 3 years. There is a wonderful book called " The Continuum Concept " by a lady who lived with a tribe for a couple of years, and talks a lot about their child-rearing. Guest guest
This whole pregnancy rate thing is interesting to me. I've been eating a whole foods diet practically my whole life (although it was a grain based vegan one for many years) A bit before the conception of my third child I was introduced to NT and then to Aajounus's book. I ate an Aajounus diet pretty much while nursing my son. He nursed for a little over three and a half years and I had no periods during that time, when he was 3 1/2 I did ovulate and I conceived another child. That child is now 2 1/2 and I've not had a cylce since the third child was conceived. I do try and eat little in the way of grain. Does anyone else out there have an experience nursing and eating low carb diet and have fertility rates similar to hunter/gatherers. I want to confirm I'm not some lone freak living in modern society! I always wanted my kids spaced closer but it didn't work out that way. Oh well, it's too late now. piimaman

There is a wonderful book called " The Continuum Concept " by a lady who lived with a tribe for a couple of years, and talks a lot about their child-rearing. I've read that book. Its a great book to read. Very interesting. Attechment Parenting has a lot of good points. I have 3 children. My eldest boy Niek is 4 years, my daughter Lotte is 2 years and my youngest daughter Emma is 2 months. I've nursed them all. Niek till he was 3, Lotte stopped drinking from the breast when she was 2 and I hope Emma will go on for a long time. My eldest son from 4 is drinking again from the breast. He loves it. My reading of stone age women indicates that they actually spaced their >children out quite a bit -- if I remember correctly it was at least 3 years >between children -- probably due to long lactation and perhaps 'lower' >hormones due to their overall leaness. Altough I've breastfeeded them long my children are not spaced. It's a little busy sometimes but its also very social. Guest guest
Yep. Sounds very social, isn't it? And very natural..... ;-) Heleen >>>>Altough I've breastfeeded them long my children are not spaced. Guest guest
>> Does anyone else out there have an experience nursing and eating low carb diet and have fertility rates similar to hunter/gatherers. My cycle returns when my babies night-wean. I (forcibly) night-weaned the first at 15mo, and got pregnant at 17mo. (Yes, I wish I had not night-weaned her, not because of the pregnancy, but for other reasons). #2 night-weaned at 22mo, and I soon got my cycle back. I am now nursing #3, who is 11mo and still nursing at night, and have no signs of returning fertility yet. Of course, this varies widely for different women. I wasn't eating particularly low-carb at the time; didn't get into that until I was already pregnant with #3. ~ Carma ~ Home Education Resources & Links Directory: http://members.ispwest.com/paden/

Guest guest
Aajounus Vonderplanitz - We Want To Live, his diet is based on raw animal foods, no grain (except small amounts of white sourdough bread) it consists of raw butter, honey, raw meat, eggs, avocados, some fruit, etc.. I was introduced to it by Pacetti. piimaman
Guest guest
Kat, I was on an Aajounus diet for a good 18 months., I had a superabnormal amount of energy which was really too much for me to handle. I didn't sleep, I felt like an animal (it was a very raw feeling and really toyed with my senses/nerves etc..) and I became very thin (and I'm on the thinner side to start with). My son (who I was nursing at the time ) remained fine and has had really good health. It was a very interesting experience. I have a good friend that was also doing it at the time (she had been a long time raw food vegan (25 years)and messed her health up - she had developed cancer and tried to heal herself with a macro diet (I had been a long time macro) and that's how we met. Anyway she experimented for a couple of years after macrobiotics with Dr. Schmids Native Nutrition type diet since she lived near him and then she met Aajounus and really loved how she felt on his type of diet at first (the first two years ) but then she described the same type experience I had (we are both metabolically very similar , we look alike , weigh the same ) although she's 20 years older. Guest guest
Hi piimaman, I live in Los Angeles area, not far from Aajounus, and was introduced to his work by a friend. I never got involved because when I tried to eat the meat I kept gagging, just could not do it. Did you try it? Guest guest
Yes, she did so an Aajounus's diet. Now she eats cooked meat and vegetables as well as raw and soaked grains - a modified NT type diet. piimaman On a sidenote -when she was doing the Aajounus diet she was in her late forties and looked about 35 at most, her body was toned to the maximum despite not working out (just dancing at night).
