I want to second what Irene said. I also have suffered

from chronic, hard to treat bladder infections which

didn't clear up until I successfully addressed the

candida problem. Have your friend do a urinalysis when

the next possible infection strikes to determine the

EXACT form of bacteria that's present. Many times

doctors (allopathic and holistic) do not treat the

correct bug. A wonderful wise woman herbalist in Santa

Cruz taught me that the most important first step in

treating a UTI is to pinpoint the strain of bacteria

that's doing the damage. Certain herbs are better for

certain bugs - and the same goes for antibiotics. For

instance, uva ursi or Bactrim might kill one bug while

juniper berries and Cipro another. Regardless of the

MO, make sure you bulk up on probiotics from fermented

foods and supplemental acidophilus to help rebalance

the delicate inner flora.

Also, a Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis can

determine if bacteria in the gut is playing a role, as

it was in my case. Turns out I had something called

Klebsiella - commonly found in catheters which lots of

docs had used on me to try and relieve some of my

pain. So, that wrapped up with two strains of candida

(as shown on the CDSA) was running rampant through my

system. With diet, herbs and one short term

pharmaceutical antifungal (wasn't happy about that,

but it was the most logical and effective choice) my

situation has improved dramatically.

A vegetarian diet is CERTAINLY NOT the way to go. Way

too many grains, hard to digest beans and soy to

overcome any imbalance, especially a digestive/urinary

one.

If you need any more info on that, feel free to email

me.
