Guest guest
You might also recommend Liver Flushes. I find them quite helpful but if he is very ill he should be cautious. They can be harsh. It's GREAT that you've put a lot of effort into helping him and i bet a lot of this *will* help him. but i DO think it's important that he get to an experienced and talented naturopath or other health professional as soon as he can. i'll add some comments to what you've come up with, but be warned i'm just a layperson. i've done some cancer research over the past few years because my dog died of cancer in 2000, but my knowledge in this area is limited. >>>>>The gist of what I recommended to him (with the caveat that he involve a naturopath to help establish a plan with him) are: FOOD: -unheated honey, bee pollen, and royal jelly -------->i would be hesitant to recommend any type of sugar, even from natural sources. tumors preferentially 'feed' on glucose and although complex carbs are converted to glucose as well, i see no point in directly feeding the tumor with sugary foods. One of the leading canine cancer researchers has found 'low to no carb' diets to be the most effective in preventing tumor growth, IIRC. -raw milk, butter, and cream (copiously) ------->i'd be hesitant about this due to the involvement of the bile duct. at least, *copious* amounts might not be indicated. -raw and fermented grass fed meat and fish (kibbeh, ceviche, etc.) -strict exclusion of refined carbohydrates and processed foods, artificial colors, preservatives, sugar substitutes, etc. -NT beverages: beet kvass, whey drink, kombucha, raw liver cocktail, cabbage juice tonic, carrot juice cocktail -------->kombucha, beets and carrots are sugary foods/drinks - the harmful effects *may* outweigh the beneficial. >>>>>>>SUPPLEMENTS (compiled from numerous herbals I have; some duplication among the lists, of course): -GENERAL: cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil (x-factor oil), and coconut oil -IMMUNITY BOOSTING: Echinacea, Ligustrum, Astragalus, Licorice, Bupleurum, Chinese skullcap, Ginseng, Ashwaganda, Chinese Shizandra, Calendula (Marigold), Chamomile, Burdock, Baptista, Red Clover, Marshmallow, Yellow dock, Yucca, Garlic, Shiitake Mushrooms, GLA, Thyme, Lavender, Bergamot, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Rosemary, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Ginger, Gotu Kola, Kelp, Dandelion, Una de gato (or Cat's claw) -CANCER/TUMOR FIGHTING: Thyme, sweet basil, Turmeric, Garlic, Astragalus, ligustrum, Siberian ginseng, Shiitake mushrooms, Polporus, Pau d'arco, Butterbur, Mistletoe, Celandine (Chelidonium), Podophyllum, Boldocynara, Lycopodium, barberry, Bio-C-Lozenges, Echinacea, Comfrey or Wallwosan (Symphytum officinale), Lactic Acid Preparations, Molkosan, sauerkraut juice, vegetable juices -LIVER STRENGTHENING/DETOXIFYING: Dandelion, burdock, chamomile, licorice, milk thistle, Ginger, garlic, rosemary, grape leaves, Artichokes, Licorice, astagalus, shizandra, bupleurum, Ginger, turmeric, cardamom, ginseng (especially red), ukon, reishi mushrooms, psyllium seed -PANCREAS BOOSTING: Horseradish, Papaya, Bilberry (blueberry) juice, blackcurrant juice, weak herb teas, true buttermilk, Papayasan in conjunction with Kelpasan ------------->i'm going to be frank - this seems like just too much stuff to me. figuring out any possible contraindications among all these things would be a nightmare plus, i really think that a good naturopath would first do some diagnostics to see what your friend's *specific* needs are. some of these things might not be what *his body* needs, and others might be. this will also depend on the type and stage of cancer because each natural compound is indicated for a specific type (or multiple types, in some cases) and specific stages of cancer development (some are also indicated for more than one stage). a good naturopath will develop a protocol based on these issues and on the diagnostics that would (hopefully) shed light on nutritional deficiencies, metabolic imbalances etc that are going on in your friend's body. also want to mention that i believe maitake d-fraction (mushroom) has shown to be much more effective in cancer treatment than reishi or shitake. >>>>>>OTHER: -gentle daily walks and/or yoga -prayer and/or meditation -acupuncture, acupressure, reiki, saunas, and/or massages? -castor oil packs over affected area -strict avoidance of pollutants of all kinds (synthetic fragrances, household toiletries and chemicals, etc.) ------->that all looks good! >>>>I listed a number of websites and books for him, too. ---------->don't know if you have this on your list, but i'd recommend " Herbal Medicine, Healing and Cancer " by Yance, master herbalist and clinical nutritionist. another one: " Natural Compounds in Cancer Therapy " by Boik. This is a relatively technical book, but is probably the best scientifically-oriented and well referenced book on natural compounds for cancer that i've yet come across. Boik gives details of various studies on each compound, and in many cases lists the doses that were effective in the studies referenced. he discusses the types of cancers and stages of development that each is indicated for, as well. it's a great resource! >>>>>>>I was also wondering what people think about how much fat he should eat. NT and other sources are very pro-animal fat, and I am generally (from organic grass-fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, vaccine-free, humanely-raised animals), but I wondered if the involvement of the bile duct makes that a problem? --------->i think it would. >>>>If he's having trouble secreting bile to digest the fat, could eating fat cause more problems than it solves? ----------->theoretically, i think the answer is yes, but it depends on the level of impairment i imagine. >>>>They put a stent in to bypass or help the bile duct so maybe it's okay? --------->sorry, not familiar with that. An online pal's sister-in-law has a dog that was diagnosed with bile duct carcinoma a little over a year ago. i think he was given a month or two to live. my friend took the dog to her holistic vet (this is in Canada) and he put the dog on a diet/supplement protocol. the diet was...vegan. yes, a vegan diet for a carnivore. sounds crazy, but guess what? the dog is still alive today and doing well! seems he's in remission. at first when i heard he was put on a vegan diet, i thought it sounded crazy, but you can't argue with success. i think the rationale (or at least part of it) was that fat was too difficult for him to digest. i requested his diet/supp protocol, which she sent me some time ago. i can ask her if i can pass it on to you, if you have any interest in seeing it. obviously, it would not be something your friend should specifically follow, but a successful protocol for bile duct cancer (even in another species) might just add to your arsenal of information on how to deal with this type of cancer (if indeed they're the same type). Best of luck! your friend is very lucky to have a friend like you...who knows, you might just save his life Suze Fisher Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg/ mailto:s.fisher22@... Guest guest
Hi Jill: Looks like you've done quite a bit of research for your friend. He can definitely use your help and support. I think you got some pretty good comments and suggestions so far, and like Suze, I'm also a layperson, but am recovering from a life-threatening disease of which some forms of treatment are similar to leukemia. However, I did not go the conventional route and have been told by my doctor that I am beating the odds. Some suggestions I have that I didn't see on your list are the following: If possible, increase his water intake. Check out www.watercure2.com , make sure he's having regular bowel movements (If he's not having daily bowel movements, he may have to use enemas to help him along. You can have the best nutrition in the world, but if everything is all clogged up, that nutrition won't get to where it's needed.), lots of fresh air (Go outside and do some breathing exercises. Singing helps with this. Cancer supposedly doesn't thrive well in a high oxygenated environment.), good circulation is necessary so in addition to walking, saunas, and massages; do some rebounding if possible. (This helps move the lymphatic fluid since the lymphs don't have a pump of their own. Also alternating hot and cold water during showering helps this too.). He might want to have a heavy metals test done and do some chelation therapy if he has any high toxic metal loads. Regular sunshine (There's a book called Sunlight, by Dr. Kime which reveals the importance of regular sunshine. This might also help with his jaundice.), and touching the earth (I know this one sounds weird, but if I can find the link, I'll send it to you which explains this. It's been more than a year since I read about it. Basically, let his feet touch the earth regularly like walking barefoot on the grass daily. There was a suspicion that high voltage powerlines were one factor is the development of childhood leukemia, so a study was done wherein sheep were placed directly under some high voltage powerlines. The sheep did not get leukemia and the study was scrapped, but years later with more recent information, they looked back at the study and realized that the sheep were touching the earth and were thereby grounded. It's believed that the grounding is what prevented the sheep from receiving the full negative effects of the high voltage lines. We are constantly being exposed to a lot of EMF's that people were never exposed to such as all these computers, cell phones, radio waves, etc. and we are also wearing rubber shoes which insullate us from the ground whereas our ancestors didn't have rubber shoes and were more in contact with the earth.) I think someone mentioned Sam Biser's site. Read the part about cayenne pepper on his site. Make sure he gets to bed early like 9:00PM. It's important that he gets plenty of rest. (Dr. Day says, " You can't fix a car while you're driving it. " ) That's about what comes to mind right now. I did the vegan thing for two years, but this year have gone back to eating meats. I was able to put my condition in remission with the vegan approach, but found that once I was in remission, I needed some rebuilding material that the veganism didn't seem to be providing. The animal products have really helped me out. It makes me wonder if I should have included them from the beginning. It might be that we need a different diet when reversing a disease and then once that's achieved get on a good maintance diet. (Just a thought there.) I had/have a hematologist for monitoring my condition and lab support, and I have a nutritionist where I had my heavy metals test done. But the program I used as my treatment was done by me through personal research. I didn't pay a nutritionist or doctor for that. Although it was slow, I was able to recover with very little supplementation. I'm not saying not to go to a specialist, but having a serious illness and not being able to work full time can put a lot of additional financial burden on him. If a program can be done at home as I did it, why waste the money? Of course he may want the extra coaching, I don't know. But, basically, he's going to have to do all the work himself anyway. Hope this helps, Marla www.geocities.com/marlakins ----- Original Message ----- > Hi gang, > > A friend in Missouri was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and sent home to > die. Guest guest
Jill, a few more thoughts came to mind that might be useful: 1) add raw (or desicated) pancreas and liver to his diet (like heals like - glandular therapy) 2) lipoic acid is super for regenerating the liver (thorne and designs for health are 2 good brands). it's both a water- and fat- soluble antioxidant that is naturally occurring in our bodies 3) LiverCare is also a powerful herbal liver supporter/cleanser 4) you might want to take a look at Poly-MVA - this is a non-toxic chemotherapeutic agent (mostly made from lipoic acid, i think) that was developed as a non-toxic therapy for brain cancer patients. a well-known holistic vet (martin goldstein) uses it and is quite enthusiastic about his results. i used it with my cancer dog for a while - don't know if it helped him at all, though. i heard of one dog with squamous cell carcinoma (same as my dog's) in FL who went into remission on it. i vaguely recall a fellow Mainer telling me she used it successfully with her cat, as well. it was originally developed for humans, though. anyhow, it might be worth checking out: http://www.polymvasurvivors.com/ http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/cancer1/poly.htm (mentions pancreatic cancer) http://www.thensome.com/poly.htm Suze Fisher Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg/ mailto:s.fisher22@...
