Guest guest
I was surprised to get a pop-up asking to sign a petition to fund vaccines when I was sending Mother's Day cards on the Care2 website. Care2 puts out a lot of information about environment, natural health and various activist causes (http://www.care2.com/). Here is the text of the pop-up: (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/426/435/231/) Childhood vaccines are one of the most cost-effective ways to save lives and prevent disease for a lifetime. And now, for the very first time, we have two, proven new vaccines that will help stop pneumonia and diarrhea -- two of the biggest killers of children under 5 around the world. But we need your help! Sign our petition today and ask our government leaders to help fund these two proven vaccines and save 4 million children's lives in 5 years. Here is my reply: No caring person wants children to die from pneumonia and diarrhea, but I do not support the idea that injecting a child with toxic or infectious material or circumventing the normal immune system is the best way to avoid deaths. The vaccines are not even named and seem to be in a developmental state - how do we know they are safe, much less effective? I DO NOT support this petition drive and am shocked that this site does. Maybe some of you would like to contribute. But when I went back to the site, I saw names but few comments, so I don't know if my actual message had the desired affect.
