Guest guest
Did you have the pharmacist call to make sure this wasn't a mistake? That drastic of change is bound to make you feel horrible. Is this a pain doctor or a general practitioner? Sounds like the medication wasn't really helping too much to begin with. Guest guest
I've been a lurker on this list. I have 2 herniated cervical disks (and 2 in my lumbar spine). I was rear ended by a sheriff's deputy March of 2010 and haven't posted because my case is still under legal review, but getting close to resolving it. Anyhow, remember our " wonderful " governor Rick signed into law the pill mill bill just recently? I say " wonderful " sarcastically as he's got to be the worse thing that's ever happened to this wonderful state. I don't know all the details of it, but when I saw my neurologist's nurse practitioner last Monday for my monthly recheck and refill of my hydrocodone/APAP, before she would call in the prescription, she checked to see if I had seen the neurologist himself within the past 6 months (which I have - last saw him about 2 months ago). She said it was the law. It was the first time she ever checked this, so I think it's because of the law that signed. This stupid law is going to negatively impact those of us that need these medications for true legitimate reasons. In addition to hydrocodone/APAP, I also take Xanax as I've suffered from severe panic attacks since I was young (had my first one in 5th grade). I have been on Xanax since 1984 and it literally saved my life. I see my psychiatrist next month (i see him ever 4-6 months since I'm doing so well on it), so I'll see how this new law impacts my prescription for that. It seems that those of us that need these meds to function are being made to feel like addicts and criminals. God forbid we should actually need them for legit reasons. I've always wanted these lawmakers who view these meds with such negatively to be affected with a condition that requires them. Boy would their point of view change in a big hurry! BTW, for both drugs I receive 90 each month (both to be taken 3 times a day) and when I got my hydrocodone/APAP last week, it was for 90 pills, no refills as has been the norm. I go back to my neurologist's office September 26. Going to have to remember now to see the actual neurologist at least every 6 months now. Guest guest
Ann, I wonder if your doc can get around this by doing a mail order prescription?  It is so sad when a few hurt the many.  I wonder if there are any advocacy groups in your area.  There should be a way around a law like this.  Debbie > Did you have the pharmacist call to make sure this wasn't a > mistake? That drastic of change is bound to make you feel horrible. > > Is this a pain doctor or a general practitioner? Sounds like the > medication wasn't really helping too much to begin with. > > Jennette > > >________________________________ > >From: Ann Wood Fuller <gatorma1@...> > > " neck pain " <neck pain > > > >Sent: Sunday, September 4, 2011 6:27 PM > >Subject: pain medication issues > > > > > > > >Has a anyone had any problems with their pain med prescriptions? Guest guest
My Doctor who has been seeing me for Chronic Pain since 2000 just recently reduced my Vicoden 750 / 7.5 from 6 pills in a 24 hour period to 3. But he upped my Oxycontin to 2X a day. His reasoning was that I'm at the limit for the amount of Vicoden for my height /weight and he was concerned about long term effects. The Oxy is longer acting and actually less tiring on me. I do believe that the DEA is also leaning on him and all doctors to reduce the amount of narcotic drugs they issue. I now must see him every 3 months on the dot in order to get new scripts. I'm also drug tested, which I never was before. So you are all not alone. I hope this is not a slippery slope because I like you and many others on here have very legitimate pain and can go crazy from the pain. Not from withdrawal of the drugs. I'm 50, have been on many meds for the last 11 years and will be for the rest of my life. So I try to hold back on how much I take because once you hit the wall and your limit, what can you do for the pain. I try all of the non medicinal methods I can, Ice, massage, walking, relaxation tapes, prayer, Tens-Unit, etc. I also can use muscle relaxers in addition too or in place of the Vicoden / Oxy. Whatever gets the job done. Hang in there. Like President Clinton, I feel your pain. Dave

Guest guest
Hi Mark, Is there any activity you remember doing that leads up to these episodes? Could it be associated with muscle spasm from being in a weird position during work or sleep or overdoing working with your arms? I remember having a lot of cracking in my neck. I think that was from spasmed muscles pulling my cervical vertebra tight together. And when I turned my neck the tendons snapped across vertebral joints. But I don't know for sure that's what it was. However, when my neck muscles relaxed and strengthened after I improved my posture, I didn't have that snapping any more and still don't. Rochelle > > Hi all - As many her e know I had cervical fusion C4-7) about 3 years ago and it has provided amazing relief to the loss of use and strength of my left arm. But as we all know nothing comes without its drawbacks and side effects. I get these periods of intense pain in my shoulders and arms sometimes and sometimes it even affects my stomach in a manner it seems I am getting nauseated and in addition sometimes it feels like my head is feeling lightheaded..I have thought about it being not neck related (i.e. circulation/cardiac) but all that checks out okay. I will often after these spells go for a few days will have that kink in the neck feeling where it just does not seem my stiffness uncomfortable feeling in my neck will ever stretch out...then I will get a loud audible and shuttering click as my neck adjusts - feels like a stuck disk position is sliding into place (I am guessing here but that is how it feels) and get some immediate relief followed > after a short time with lessening of the symptoms....I guess I am just looking for anyone who may have similar symptoms to commiserate with or gain a perspective of where this may be leading...hopefully not more surgery... > > > P.S. it is saddening and heartening (that a celeb is among us) that Peyton Manning had cervical fusion this week... > > > Praying for pain free days for you all. > > mark > > >
