Guest guest
Sourdough starter should smell like yeast. If it smells bad or turns pink or some other color, throw it out. I'm not familiar with hogs, but wouldn't spoiled food make them sick? There is more than one method for making starter. I don't know which you tried, but maybe you could use a different method. I don't know if it's NT, but you could even buy sourdough starter (I originally started mine from a recipe that used standard Brewer's yeast, but you probably won't want to do that.) You would only have to get it once, and that might keep it from going bad, and eventually wild yeasts from your local area would colonize it. I don't use mine every day, so I keep it in the refrigerator and take it out and feed it a day before I use it. (But I use wheat flour) Robin From: Matt and Kim Brenneman <mkbrenne@...> Reply- " " < > Subject: OK folks, How do you make sourdough bread... Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 11:05:16 -0500 What I've got here looks like it should be thrown to the hogs. I'm not kidding. I started with freshly gound rye, did the starter thing for a week. Now I have a lump of stinky dough that is disgusting. I'm going to start over. I still have starter. What is it supposed to smell like? I have allergies really bad so my nose doesn't work that great. My over reacting son says it stinks like something rotten (actualy he has lots of descriptive words), my husband says it smells like cheese. Advice wanted please, Kim Brenneman _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
