Guest guest
In all fairness on the produce and food in general you see the grocery and the " cheap " price... I doubt very much that each item grown on the farm has the farmer 100% attention and is hand crafted. How many oranges does one get from a tree? Five, ten? :-) At 50c each its easy to see how a tree producing 10 oranges would be hard pressed to provide a living to farmers. However per orange its probably only a nickle and not 50c....BUT In an acre there are easily 200 trees...each tree providing hundred or more oranges each. Same with other vegetables. If the production WAS handmade its one thing, but its not. The farmer, like other businesses needs to see how they can flatten the distribution to earn more. Direct sales, subscriptions, clubs etc are all potentials for both consumers and farmers to get a better deal. It amazes me the actual cost for other manufactured items as well. A simple nut and bolt...consider the mine, moving the ore, smelting, engineering the tool and dies, the actual fabrication, the shipping and distribution to hardware stores and available to consumer for pennies! Quite a wonder.
