Guest guest
Lauric acid is also found in small amounts in butterfat and beef fat, though tiny amounts compared to coconut oil. I _think_ but don't quite remember, that it might be found in other tropical oils like palm oil, but don't remember. Chris

I asked Enig about this. While I understood the importance of lauric acid, I found it difficult to believe that everyone (particularly those in temperate and cooler climates) NEEDED a tropical food for optimal health. explained that lauric acid is in high quality dairy fat (which is indigenous to temperate climates), but that it's currently more difficult to obtain high quality dairy fat than it is to obtain high quality coconut oil. (I.e., I think there's little if any lauric acid in grocery store milk.) I didn't ask her how much diary fat you'd need to eat in order to get enough lauric acid as the dairy route wasn't an option for me at the time. IIRC, she also said that lauric acid is in mothers' breastmilk.
