Guest guest
I always found that if I took my kids into the physician's office (and I abandoned the controlling pediatrician in the first year of my first child's life), they came home sick, as the offices always had at least one (or many) sick children. Hahnemann went on to write 2 more editions - 5th & 6th - and few follow this, as few schools teach it. In these editions he taught about giving the remedies in water - decrease the risk of aggravations and faster, gentler cure (in chronic conditions). Also the remedies are used in water for minor acutes and first aid, as you will learn here. I have referred and referred to homeopaths on lists that seem to have good credentials and this is always the case - they are 4th edition prescribers and use remedies dry. There are only a few homeopaths I refer to (who practice similarly to myself, following the laws and principles). But for minor acutes and first aid, this is why I teach this class - so you can work with remedies yourselves. Guest guest
As Sheri said it is really difficult. I think the best is word of mouth then trial and error. I found a holistic family doctor and after my son fell she would never return my phone calls. I was pretty annoyed so I found a conventional doctor/practice recommended to me. I also had one in CA. In CA I asked before hand if they had a problem with vax'ing during a meet-and-greet and they didn't. When we told the new ped we don't vax he just said " ok " and we didn't have to sign a form. On my holistic moms network one mom mentioned that her holistic ped would not return phone calls (nurse said he doesn't) regarding what seemed to be a serious issue with her toddler. A fellow member of my local HMN group mentioned a practice that is listed on the novaxdoctors website and is one a lot of the members use. However when I visited their website they stand by vaccines and state how important they are. I also know the practice makes parents sign a waiver. My friend's daughter got a cut on her face from a barb wire and the ped tried to push the tetanus vax on her. They don't know everything and I don't follow all their advice. Like now my son is getting his 2yr molars and he suggested Tylenol. Or suggesting I give them vitamins even after I told them they get raw foods, juice so I think they are just fine. But I do like going for a well baby visit if there is something I may miss or recently to check on my son after his fall. Guest guest
At 09:33 PM 9/2/2010, you wrote: >This maybe a dumb question: what is the difference between a >naturopathic, homepath/ holistic doctors? > >Carlena Not dumb Here is something I share with my homeopathy class also will add (which isn't in the info below) about a holistic doctor - usually a doctor trained normally and then 'sees the light' and realizes the harm of allopathic/regular medical practice and starts to do more natural things, taking a class here and there, studying on his/her own or more. Clarifying - Homeopathy, Herbalism, Naturopathy, Bach Flowers, Combos, Misc http://realmagick.com/articles/18/2018.html http://www.holisticonline.com/Homeopathy/homeo_principles.htm So now that you have learned much of the basics of homeopathy - laws and principles - it is a little easier for you to know the difference between that and other 'holistic' practices. Homeopathy - the classical or Hahnemannian homeopath ONLY uses homeopathy, according to the principles we have studied. He/she doesn't mix it with herbs or other holistic therapies, in most cases. It is pure homeopathy as homeopathy is a complete system on its own and with a view towards symptoms and disease that is 180 degrees different from other systems out there. Herbalism - An herbalist is someone who works with and has a knowledge of herbs. Many times they are used preventatively but much of the time herbs are used in an allopathic way - to get rid of symptoms - just use herbs instead of allopathic medicines. They are used in a gross/material amount (not diluted as in homeopathy) and not used following the same principles. Naturopathy - A naturopath studies all of sorts of things in their training allopathic medicine, chiropractic, osteopathy, homeopathy, herbs, midwifery, nutrition, acupuncture and more. But knows a little bit about a lot of things. Some, do go on to specialize in homeopathy, undergoing extensive training in homeopathy as a homeopath would. But this is NOT the norm for a naturopath. Naturopaths often have a very short course in homeopathy. Because they don't have an extensive 4+ year course only in homeopathy, they often don't practice according to the laws and principles of homeopathy, but often in a more allopathic way. And certainly, to be able to treat chronically ill people, you must have a thorough knowledge and education in homeopathy alone. And again, most naturopaths would combine therapies and treatments. Be very judicious if you use a naturopath for homeopathy - find out exactly what their educational background is with it. Many just don't realize their limitations with homeopathy. You don't realize until you've been in it for awhile, how extensive your knowledge and experience must be to use homeopathy effectively other than in minor acutes and first aid. Bach Flowers - http://www.bachcentre.com/index.html Bach Flower remedies are a whole other system working mostly with emotions (and of course physical symptoms are affected). The remedies are not homeopathic in that they are not diluted and succussed in the same way as homeopathy, they have not gone through a proving of any kind to know what symptoms the material dose would cause in a healthy person - the principles of homeopathy are not followed. Some homeopaths do use Bach Flower Remedies - especially Rescue Remedy - as we/they know that it works it situations of Stress and is not likely to be suppressive and seems to cause no problem in mixing with homeopathic treatment. but it is not homeopathy as many think. http://realmagick.com/articles/18/2018.html Combination Remedies As you have now realized, classical/Hahnemannian homeopaths do NOT use combination remedies nor do they recommend them. Combination remedies are a variety of remedies that are common ones that are useful in certain symptom pictures. For example, teething - most babies have a certain number of symptoms in common and there are 4 or 5 remedies that commonly may be the one that fits your baby. So they have mixed those together. But again, none of them may match your babies symptom picture and throwing a bunch of stuff against the wall and hoping something sticks is not homeopathy. And again, we don't know the effect of all of those remedies together on the vital force. Many of you probably were introduced to homeopathy with the use of combination remedies (about the only thing good I can say a about them!). The appeal is understandable for acute illnesses - you don't have to individually repertorize to find the right remedy and it is quick. And occasionally they may appear to work - hopefully they aren't suppressing the symptoms - but probably one of the remedies in the solution is a match to your child's symptom pictures. There is also the challenge of combos out there for chronic problems - ie. sinus problems, allergies, hay fever, PMS and more. As you now understand, anything chronic or a flare up of a chronic problem is NOT something you should be treating yourself - especially with combos. Miscellaneous Here I would like to say a few things. Most classical/Hahnemannian homeopaths who follow the principles of homeopathy as laid down by Hahnemann are NOT in favor of using things like kinesiology, muscle testing, energy detecting machines & dowsing to determine what remedy you need. Over and over we see this. Most of the homeopaths I know and respect think that sometimes these things may work to some degree but often don't get at the deeper layers to find the closest remedy. THERE IS NOT a substitute for the knowledge and learning of homeopathic remedies and the materia medica. Then if a homeopath, with that base of knowledge, wants to try other such things, then so be it. But usually they are the QUICK way of thinking you can find a remedy and this is just not true. Certainly your intuition plays a part in your work as a homeopath, but based on a solid information base. Also as far as mixing other therapies - most homeopaths I've known and studied with don't see a problem with mixing with chiropractic, massage, nutritional supplements (although a homeopath I know has seen someone severely affected by zinc overdosing and beyond the possibility of cure) and vitamins. Sometimes acupuncture can even be combined with it and I say sometimes. But Chinese Medicine is a complete system of its own. Choose Chinese Medicine or choose homeopathy (other than those treating with Dr. Luc who uses both and uses them well), don't try to mix them as they are very different systems. Energy type healing practices also can be counterproductive and also confuse the picture as to what is going on from your remedy. Better to just use homeopathy or just use the other system. Especially when you are first starting homeopathy. Later, once you are more stable, or your homeopath, agrees, other things can be done. Guest guest
Yes, me too. There are minor inconvenienced from not having a doctor. The YMCA wouldn't let me sign up for Silver Sneakers (I am old you see) without a doctor's permission for example. It is ludicrous. Silver Sneakers is extremely light weight exercise. I just wanted to go because a lot of my friends go. But I can exercise on my own. I rely on essential oils for my medicine. Guest guest
I went to a family doc based on that hope they are not as bad. Mine is. He still is vaccine happy but he at least he also doesn’t push me. I was hoping for a doc w/ no vaccine ads and he’s still brainwashed. He took a call while seeing Jon once. “oh it couldn’t be measles. That’s been eradicated”… oh puhleeeze! Oh it couldn’t be…. Makes me roll my eyes! We don’t do wbc’s either anymore, several babies running. Guest guest
Sheri, Thank you for reminding me about these referrals. I inquired because I thought there would be a resource/referral in this group that I could start with and go from there. I am, in no way, looking for a traditional ped, but there are issues that I need a trained specialist to check on with my daughter. And I also thought I would be able to connect with likeminded individuals in my new area. If you know of any homeopaths, naturopaths, etc., that work with children in CT, please forward. Thanks again! Guest guest
I understand and certainly there may be someone who knows someone. Just thought I'd share the other ways to find one if there is no personal recommendation Good luck Sheri At 05:59 PM 7/20/2011, you wrote: >Sheri, > >Thank you for reminding me about these referrals.
