In a report prepared by a US television network during the height of the AH1N1 outbreak last year, the percentages of flu was MUCH lower then that. From memory, of all of the ILI (Influenza Like Illnesses) being reported, testing showed that less than 5% (as low as 1%) were caused by AH1N1 and no more than 10% was caused by influenza at all. Dr Obomsawin recently put together a graph using data from the British Medical Journal which confirms that only 10% of what is normally diagnosed as influena is actually caused by influenza viruses. Since the influenza vaccine has little to no effect (if you think it can prevent anything at all) unless the circulating strain of the virus matches what is in the shot (something that happens about 2 years out of 4), we are vaccinating large numbers of vulnerable people with an ineffective vaccine to prevent 10% of the ILI that occurs each season. It is madness at best - criminality at worst.Dr Obomsawin also refers to the recent Cochrane Report by Dr Jefferson which shows quite clearly that ILI can be used interchangeably with influenza even though they are not the same:Message:Lucija’s reference to a “big grain of salt” is a actually an understatement. Tom Jefferson has poignantly noted that “influenza like illness” is an acute respiratory disease caused by many different viruses presenting symptoms and signs that cannot be distinguished from those of influenza. Consequently, some disease surveillance systems report cases of influenza-like illness as influenza without further explanation. This confusion next leads to a “gross overestimation of the impact of influenza, unrealistic expectations of the performance of vaccines, and spurious certainty of our ability to predict viral circulation and impact.” 1 1.
