Guest guest
Sherrie, Have you tried ice on your back. I've had lots of back problems and that always helps me more than heat. sometimes I alternate between ice and heat. Hope you feel better. Guest guest
Hey Deb what kind of pt are you doing at home sherriereynawhitehawk <ReynaWhitehawk@...> wrote: Hey Kim,Congrats on going back! It was hard on me too the first week. My OS wanted me to go only 4 hours but my boss said 8 or nothing remember? Good thing my first day back was on a Wednesday so I only worked 3 days and then had the weekend to recover!! So this is my second full week and it's getting easier. But I'm still sore as anything. And yes, my knee is still bugging me at night, especially when I've been up on it too much. I told my husband last night I guess I was getting to cocky and thinking I could do too much without my cane cause my ankle was swollen up again last night when I got home. So I now see for me that is a sign I'm up and about on it too much. Are you using a cane at work? Are you icing it or taking anything like Tylenol or Aleve? All I can say is to watch and listen to what your body will tell you. Like how my ankle is "talking" to me now. Lets me know I need to back off a bit. My hardest part right now is working all day and getting home at 7:15 and still doing my PT...I'm too damn tired. I try to do a little something at work, I walk around ALOT..but I know I need to do more at home. It's just really hard for me to get into it right now.Good luck.Deb>> Hello everyone,> > I went back to work today.....it is a good thing I work part-time. Guest guest
Sherrie, First thing I do is wrap it up for about 15 minutes in a heating pad. This works best for me to loosen everything up. I also take 2 Motrin. I start out on my exercise bike for 45 mins. Then I do my quads, I do 3 different exercies for those. I hang my knees over the end of my footboard of the bed with a towel underneath and do leg lifts, 3 sets of 10. I just let my knee hang there too for a while just to let it bend. I do that dreaded lay on your stomach and bend your knee up exercise to. For added bend on that I tie a sheet around my ankle and use it as a pully like they do at PT except they use a strap. I do toe raises, marching in place, practice walking (I still can't walk normally for some stupid reason and it makes me INSANE!!!) I balance on a 2x4 board while to regain my balance. Oh yea, and I rest my leg on the end of the footboard with a bag of rice on my knee to make it straight. Oh and wall slides....I know there are more but I can't think of them all right now. Wish I had a Y close by so I could do some pool PT. The closest one is 50 miles away from us!! I use my hand held shower massager alot for my knee and back, that thing is great. Guest guest
Deb, It is really great to have an RN on this site-- THANK you for your vast input and knowledge! Ann A poet is, after all, to see >Personally, because of all the stress I'm going through, I am very >angry and depressed. > >Jeannie Jeannie, I'm sorry to hear this. I agree with the others who replied and said you may have to just say know. You are in pain everyday and I'm sure your income is limited by your condition. You are not in a position to be a caregiver. You shouldn't especially in your condition and in this economy put yourself in deep debt. I think the advice of have your daughter move to Vegas may be a great idea. I'm not sure why you are scared for your daughters safety but if her husband is a threat to others and himself maybe he should check into a hospital. Even with no insurance they have to treat him. If they are that tight on money they should also be eligible for State or County assistance. Foodstamps, cash assistance, and medicaid. I know I received all three when we were at our worst financially. They should look into this. I may be reading into this wrong but is your daughter worried you will become ill because then you will no longer be able to help them? That seems rather self centered and not truly caring about your well being. I apologize if I'm misunderstanding your post or the relationship you have with your daughter. Guest guest
Deb, Oh, Honey, I feel for you. I have something in my right breast that is not right. Still they do not know what it is. The big C has not been uttered so I have not mentioned it here. The, if you can say this, good news is that it is contained. However you have to feel as if this is the last straw. Besides feeling scared. Now I know I am going to sound like a broken record here but I have to say this. Find yourself a good Naturopathic Doctor ASAP. They have all kinds of ways to support your body and help you get through this. Remember I told you of my friend that had four types of cancer and has lived to tell the story only because of Dr. ? If they decide to do any radiation or anything your Naturopath can support you through Homeopathy and diet. To me this is crucial and a must. We have already started with me. Besides that love, lots of love and prayer. Surround yourself with positive people that love you. We love you. Prayer, positive energy and love have helped many through a tough time. Now make sure you vent, tell us what is on your mind, ask for special prayers, anything you want. OK? Someone will always be here. Lot's of healing and loving hugs, Sue From: Clare <theclaremcharris@...>Subject: You may wonder why Date: Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 1:26 AMDear Friends: You may wonder why I write so many posts / messages that are food / nutritional related. After all this is supposed to be a list for Fibromyalgia and related disorders RIGHT? Ya know the human gut is the most important (to my way of thinking) part of our bodies. If it (THE GUT) is disordered / diseased / out of order / dysfunctional/ poorly fed etc etc etc....... you come up with your own descriptive word...... then the very 'elixer' of life .... the nutrition required, can not and will not get into our organs and muscles and cells. YES of course we need to be imbibing, digesting, taking in ONLY the very best of foods, which when PROPERLY digested, will be broken down into component parts and shuttled around to where it is needed to run the FACTORY which is our body. This will of course stave off hunger, but more importantly it will fuel our cells and restock our energy reserves. Also it will assist with healing / repairing the brokenness within us. There are a few things to consider when we consuming food stuffs. I feel certain that Sue will join with me on this 'bandwagon', and fill in things I have accidentally skipped over. I am trying NOT to write a nutritional dissertation or thesis. YES eat the best possible quality. Learn as much as you can about nutrition and NOT simply take the word of people who have agenda's to push. Understnd what your body is asking for when you are ill. Seek advice and guidance from Naturopathic / qualified persons. Your GUT - Gastro Intestinal Tract is a brain - has a brain - acts as a brain. Think I am exaggerating? do some reading/research and learn. http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en & q=gut+is+brain & meta= & aq=f & oq= If the lining of your intestinal tract is damaged through disease, be it crones disease, celiac disease, leaky gut, ulceration...... you name it! then your body will suffer accordingly. If you eat, consume unhealthy foods then you will suffer accordingly. If you follow the SAD - Standard American (Australian) Diet, then you will suffer accordingly. Did you notice that in those last three sentences there was no mention of or inference to good health? You want good health? You want to heal what is broken and not working in your body? It maybe a longish process but it can be achieved. After all you did not get sick over night. It took many months, sometimes years for your body to say 'enough is enough'. Yes there are supplements we can take...... just remember that the word SUPPLEMENT means along with - or as well as....... so supplement a good diet NOT a poor one. BUT if your gut is diseased then many of your supplements cannot work properly. They cannot be broken down into their component parts and be DIGESTED and sent off, into your body to do their work of healing. Learn to respect your digestive system. From your lips to your anus, the entire ailimentary canal - YOUR GUT, needs TLC..... yup, good old fashioned tender loving care. When Sue and I write pages of information about the dangers of a particular food, or tthe necessity and requirements of specific types of fats in our diets, we have not simply jumped on someones 'bandwagon'. We don't have a financial interest in grain, beef, sheep, coconut oil, sea urchins etc........... In fact we have carefully researched our information over many many years. We share our knowledge with you, in the hope that you too will read and research, so you can help your body to heal - get well - rejuvinate. In the process of you learning you may also be able to educate others, YES even Doctors..... maybe! General Practitioners and medical professionals in general - UNLESS they have specialised in nutrition, do very little study of it during their education years at university/college. YOU probably know more than they do. I am OFF my horse now........ whoa!!!!! Thanks for letting me rant. Holy Hugs to you all.
