Guest guest
i dont often reply to these if ever, but i too have the " vice grip " pain in the neck area-on the right side. feels as if spock is giving me the " pinch " and won't let go!! and no nothing helps except sleep....if i can get some!! My entire spine has been fused btw....... From: scoliosis1993 <karenpattersoncpa@...> Subject: Muscle Relaxer Scoliosis Treatment Date: Monday, March 15, 2010, 9:00 PM Â Regarding the " vice grip " pain in my neck that gets worse and worse with movement of neck and or arms( I stole the description from an earlier post because it is so accurate!!)- I have been prescribed various muscle relaxers at higher and higher doses. None of these even reduce the pain a bit, not a bit. If the muscle relaxers don't work at all, is there a chance that this pain is something other than an extreme muscle spasm. I have been diagnosed with a paraspinal muscle spasm. Any thoughts? I have an appointment with the surgeon on Thursday so I am excited but would like yous guys opinion as well... Guest guest
That's an interesting question. I never thought of the pain being anything other than extreme spasms. I'm the one who used the vice-grip term. And I too had no relief from any medication. I was also told at my post-op exam, when my nurse asked why I was having the surgery and I replied to relieve my muscle spasms, she looked up at me, from the form she was filling out and said " we don't perform surgery for muscle spasms. " So I said, ok, I'm having the surgery to relieve my chronic pain due to my curvature. That was acceptable. So maybe it is something other than muscle spasms. Who knows. I've never met a surgeon who really cared why I was having the pain. I honestly don't think my surgeon fully believed my pain would be relieved by the surgery. But it was. ________________________________ From: neta mcdaniels <noequal254@...> Scoliosis Treatment Sent: Tue, March 16, 2010 9:33:33 AM Subject: Re: Muscle Relaxer  i dont often reply to these if ever, but i too have the " vice grip " pain in the neck area-on the right side. feels as if spock is giving me the " pinch " and won't let go!! and no nothing helps except sleep....if i can get some!! Guest guest
Yes, that's what promted me to get the surgery. The area at my waist to the left of my lower curve, I was solid. There was no give. I assume it was a constant muscle spasm. I felt it in my front too. I'd want to press on my abdomen to relieve the pain. I don't know if it actually was muscle spasms, but I don't know what else it could've been. Like I said in other posts, it was like a vice-grip. Every move I made increased the tension. Eventually I'd feel like I was going to scream. I'd get to where I couldn't do anything but lie down and I'd have to have something pressing on the area. Like a tennis ball or my TENS unit. I had that go on for years. After the surgery, it was gone. I couldn't believe the difference. I had a waist again. It felt so weird to touch that area and not feel a big hard thing instead of the curve of my waist. I spent a long time being afraid it would come back. It never did though. When my rods broke, I did start to feel some of that pain again before I had the revision surgery. But that large spasm has never returned, that God. And my surgeon. ________________________________ From: L M <mariconda_l@...> Scoliosis Treatment Sent: Mon, March 22, 2010 6:23:00 AM Subject: Re: Muscle Relaxer  Hi Randie, Did you have the muscle spasms prior to having any surgery at all?
