Question re Combo Dosage -- DOC ??

Hi Guys --

Can you help us out with feedback?

When the Big Sis gave her first go-round with the combo earlier this

year, her system crashed after four weeks, and she was pulled off. (At

that time, she was doing the shots 3 times a week, and taking five 200

mg. pills of Ribavirin daily. But I'm telling you, the system crashed

big time!!)

She had a week to attempt to recover, then had to do a double

transfusion to kick her system into gear. The anemic condition improved

(she got up to 11 on the 12 required to clear anemia), she strengthened,

and insisted on going back in for the next play.

This time around, she eased back into it. Ten days of just the shots.

Then she started up with two pills a day (combined total, 400 mg. of

Ribavirin). Side hurts pretty bad, but she's tolerating it fairly

well. She's been doing that for approximately eight days.

Here's the question: The Sis recalls reading there is a minimum

recommended dosage of 600 mgs. of Ribavirin daily for the combo to work

at all. If that is the case, she will be willing to up the dosage to

three pills daily. She absolutely does not want to kick it back up to

the five pills -- which is what the doctors would prefer -- because she

truly believes she's going to crash again. (In all likelihood, she's

right.)

We can't stand the thought that she is fighting so hard to hang in

there with this, but that she might be a pill or two (daily) away from

making it work.

So what is the consensus of the minimum recommended daily dosage of

Ribavirin? Any comments from those who have gone through this?
