Need help for Hodgkin's Disease

Please tell me your thoughts and ideas about where to find a doctor and what type of treatment options we might have for recurrent Hodgkin's Disease. I need to know what might work. Any help will be appreciated.

Dear Sue: Thank you for the nice wishes. I have to undergo a right middle

lobectomy on May 23rd. It should not affect my device as I have the old

system of actual patches sewn on to my heart and my device is in my waist.

If I need chemo or radation well- Medtronics sent me a physicians line for

my oncologist to call. This is my second bout of cancer but the first for my

lungs. My meds are still only " Atenolol " so we will see. Love, Jeannie

(What craft show only had 6 vendors?) It was the craft show at the

Youngstown Field Day. Someone said that last year there were many

more vendors. Guess they didn't do so well and didn't return.

(Hardly worth going to would be my guess).I was considering it, but

not now with such a small showing.(Next weekend is the Art by the

Falls show in Niagara Falls, Ont.) Might be worth the trip across the

bridge to see this one.(Unfortunately it rained) two weekend shows I

did in July rained...not a fun thing to do. Kim C

Hey Connie,

Thanks for the info. I am just so frustrated b/c I hate feeling like

this.....the frustration, the pain, the inability to do things that I want to

do. I will keep searching for the answer b/c I need to get some relief from the

pain. Right now though it just seems like the answers aren't coming. I will

keep you posted as to the results of the bone scan and how all this turns out

(if it does).

Thanks again for replying and the info you gave.

I wonder if they could give you Celebrex or Vioxx for the pain? Just a

suggestion based on what's been helpful for me.

Hey Janet,

Thanks for the suggestions for the meds. The problem is that Crohn's patients

aren't suppose to take Celebrex b/c it " flares " the Crohn's. I found this out

the hard way. My primary had prescribed Celebrex when I had the first episode

of not being able to walk. After only 2 pills my Crohn's had exploded into a

huge flare-up and I immediately stopped it and the Crohn's calmed down. So I am

not able to take Celebrex. I had told my Rheumy about this episode and he has

told me that any meds he decides to use will have to be carefully coordinated

with my Gastro as to not disrupt/flare-up the Crohn's. He will definitely has

his work cut out for him to find a med that will help.

Thanks for response and I will definitely let you what the scan results are and

what the Rheumy decides to do.

Jeannie: Do you take any medication regularly for the Crohn's? I take Pentasa

and it helps keep the flares away, even taking Celebrex. My gastro and rheum

are coordinating my care. We tried Vioxx which is supposed to be the safest for

people with Crohn's. It did cause flares for me, so we tried Celebrex and so

far, so good!

Hey Kathleen,

I was initially on Pentasa but my Gastro thought the first episode I had with

not being able to walk was b/c of the Pentasa, so he switched me off of it to

MP6 (which ended up giving me pancreatitis). And so he switched me again to

Entocort for a while (still had the episodes with not being able to walk)so

finally he put me on Remicade infusions. The remicade is working wonderfully

for my Crohn's, but the problems with the stiffness/pain and inability to walk

still continue. I have not tried Vioxx to see if it works or not but I do

definitely know I can't take the Celebrex. I guess that is what makes treating

Crohn's so individual and challenging to the docs b/c not everything works the

same on everyone.

Hey, this is DesiRae, Jeanie's daughter. I just joined y'all's

group while I was on the phone with her. I told her I would update

y'all on her surgery Tuesday as soon as I speak to Jim. So, I thought

I would go ahead and introduce myself.

So, hey everyone. I'll do my best to keep you all informed.

Hi! Thanks for joining. It is always nice to see family members here. I

hope you are doing well with mother's situation. I had my surgery 3

years ago. It was no big deal. I was more than ready to leave the next

day. But we like to hear every detail so keep us posted.

Thank you all for the welcome. I'll be happy to keep you updated.

It will give me something to do. I didn't really think to much about

it until yesterday and then it all sorta hit me at once, the worry and

fear of her having such a serious surgery. I guess living so far away

(I'm in N.C. & she's in MT.) and not seeing her day to day doesn't

allow me to see how she really is. Now, the surgery date is nearly

here and whoa! I wish I could be there with her for the surgery and

to help after but that is impossible. So, I'll be carrying the phone

around all day, praying. I know how hard it is going to be for her

husband, Jim, too. He doesn't deal well when she is even slightly

under the weather. I am thankful that you guys have been such a

source of information and support to her. She has spoken about this

site to me often. When I spoke to my mom yesterday and I thought

about keeping you all updated about her condition after surgery, I was

thinking it would be great to be of help to you all. Now I am finding

that it seems you are all going to be a huge help to me as well.

Thank you.

Hi Jeannie!!

Thank You! I am going to talk to my pain doctor about this when I see

him just before Christmas. I'm thinking that this is Lyrica related

because even though the pain is in the same place it's sort of a

traveling pain as to what feels worse and when, and if I think about

it, this new stuff didn't start until about a month after I increased

my lyrica dose, which is how long it's supposed to take for full

effects. So, who knows maybe this will be one of the side effects

that passes in time. I've got arthritis too, so might be that too.

Gets to a point it's hard to guess what's doing what doesn't it?!

You take care of yourself!! I hope that you start feeling better and

your problems with your children resolve so you aren't so worried

about them and making your ulcer flair up too. Understanding that's a

tall order and once you have children, esp. one with problems too,

you'll never really stop worrying.

Take Care Jeannie-Boo!!

Hugs!

Debbie

> I don't know about Lyrica and knee pain, but according to my

surgeon, the back pain-and I had a fusion from L5-S1, is separate

from my knee pain. I had knee pain, and eventually both replaced,

long before my back problems, due to my job, and I was overweight,

and had arthritis. I'm no longer overweight, but still have severe

knee pain in my last knee that was replaced, am waiting till after

the holidays to go to an ortho again, the one I had no longer takes

anything to do with Medicare. My husband is on Lyrica and has been,

he's very overweight, but has no knee pain, just back. Don't know if

any of this helps, but have you been to an orthopaedic dr. yet to

check out the pain? I eventually had bone rubbing against bone, they

started out with injections, then did something a series of using

Synvisc to kind of add cushioning in between, then he did an

arthroscopy to clean it out, then came the replacement. Obviously

this took place over a bit of time,

> but one of my knees has lasted over 10 years with no problems. The

same dr. did both, just don't know why the second one didn't do as

well. And I had to quit work shortly after it was done because I had

my back problems, so I didn't really put any pressure on the second

knee from my job. They say knee replacements last 10-15 years

depending on life style, job, etc. I just plain hurt with this knee,

and it's affecting the way I walk, and my hips. And my sleep! This is

probably more information than you asked for, I apologise, but thanks

for letting me vent. Hope you find out something soon.
