In PA they will fast track you if your really destitute. you can have emergency Cash and food stamps in hand in 2-3 days. I also got help from my church, from other churches, from non government public assistance, and from the utility company. When I told them I just had back surgery and couldn't work, the local electric company gave me 3 months free electric no questions asked. It helped that up until then I had paid them dutifully for 20 years. I got free food from the foodbank, from my church group. I was assigned free legal counsel when my food stamps were rejected. I was rejected ( I don't mean to offend anyone here ) I was up until that point middle class in a middle class suburb. After surgery I was thrown into poverty overnight. So now I was coming into center city looking for help. I didn't fit the profile so they rejected me outright. I got a free lawyer and eventually got 6 months back foodstamps plus cash assistance and medicare. If she has any pain pills left, my suggestion would be to slowly ease off them until she gets help. I once had to go cold turkey due to a Dr who thought all I needed was ibuprofen after 2 years of narcotics. It wasn't very pretty. I never want to go through that again. I've now been on Vicoden and others since Jan 2000, 8 years. Guest guest
I've often wondered about vicodin addiction but it never was a problem with me. I don't want to take them when I'm not in pain. I hate drugging myself if I feel fine. I have heard about liver damage due to tylenol which I believe is in vicodin. I take milk thistle or dandelion root to clear out liver and kidneys. I took vicodin off and on for a few years but no withdrawal problems. I wish I could find a doc that would prescribe it for me. I went to a pain management doc connected with my chiropractor. I thought he would be understanding seeing as how he would have my records and know I had a legit case. Turns out he breezed in there and kept drilling me about my surgery 15 years ago. He didn't have a clue as to my case. I think he just wanted to run in and out and make a few quick bucks before getting to his real practice. I complained to the owner of the chiropractor clinic and didn't go back for a check up. He prescribed naproxen, flexiril and darvocet once a day. The darvocet was worthless and is usually prescribed at least every 4 hours. This is the same clinic that had the chiro that hurt my neck. I went back to the clinic today and discussed this with the owner. He thinks my neck and shoulder was irritated from it and gave me 3 free treatments starting today. I have to use my TENS unit to get through work and stay on tylenol, aleve and flexiril on my days off. The meds make me sleepy so I just lay around and watch TV. I manage to get to the store since I have no choice as I live alone. Pushing a cart is awful. Ok, enough for whining. thanks to anyone listening. > > >thanks. > >I will tell her all the good advises. > >Her income is very low. > > I know from experience that you can get help. This is what works for me after 8 years of working with the same primary care physician , and a very good psychiatrist for 2 years. There were several meds that really didn't work, including Nuerontin, Remeron, Zoloft, and Ibuprofren. Withdrawl symptons were vertigo, nausea, dizziness, cold sweats, etc. When you've been on any narcotic for a length of time you are addicted. It doesn't mean your a drug addict. We take ours to combat physical pain. But I am addicted to opiates after taking them for years. Heck months or weeks can do it. I'm not sure of the exact markings but I'm pretty sure they are Hydrocodone 7.5/750. I take 5 during a 24 hour period. This is the max I can take for my height/weight without liver damage. I'm also on 20mg Oxycoton at night. 20mg Baclofen muscle relaxer 2x a day and once at night. 1 Temazepam and I cymbalta 3 hours before bedtime. 3 10mg imiprimine, at bedtime. 3 Depakote in a 24 hour period for nerve pain, and 1) flomax per day. On top of that I take fiber and stool softeners because all the narcotics cause extreme constipation. I've been on 5 vicoden for about 2 years. Before that I was on 4. The next step after this no longer works is more Oxycoton, back off the Vicoden/Hydrocodone. Then after that all stops working it's morphine time. I'm only 47, so we need to make the Vicoden last as long as possible, because once you ramp up, there is no turning back. I checked into a morphine pump direct into the spine, but they said that works mainly on lower backs, my majority in pain is upper back, neck, shoulder. I also use Ice, massage, and the tens unit, all non drug ways I can to fight the pain. Hope this helps, Dave
