Guest guest
VaccineInfo.net PROVE Parents Requesting Open Vaccine Education Home Subscribe Contact Us Email Newsletter Dear Texas PROVE Members, I am so excited to share with you information about the greatest documentary movie ever made about the vaccine issues facing every American today. The movie is called “The Greater Good” (you can go to the website and watch the trailer and read the press kit http://www.greatergoodmovie.org/ ). The film has its Worldwide premier at the Dallas Film Festival right here in Texas on April 2nd and 3rd! We are hoping many of our members in Texas can make it to Dallas to see the screening. Advanced tickets for the Saturday April 2nd screening are already sold out so hurry and get your tickets for the Sunday April 3rd screening because they will probably sell out in the next couple of days with all the attention the film is getting (tickets are only $10 and instructions how to purchase them from the film festival directly are linked below). We are equally excited and very proud to be participating in a Dallas Film Festival sponsored Panel Discussion incorporating information from the movie into an engaging discussion how this relates to a current legislative issue facing Texas: A proposed meningitis vaccine mandate for college students. PROVE is actively fighting two bills in the current Texas legislative session, HB1816 and SB1107 which attempt to mandate this vaccine. More information on what you can do to help oppose those bills in the legislature are posted on the NVIC Advocacy site at http://NVICAdvocacy.org on the Texas State Team page and on the PROVE web site at http://vaccineinfo.net. and I will be on the panel along with Dr. Larry Palevsky and Dr. Bob Sears, and the panel will be moderated by the President of the National Vaccine Information Center, Barbara Loe Fisher. This event is FREE to all regardless of whether or not you have seen or will see the movie that weekend, and it is Sunday from 12:00-1:30 pm with seating available on a first-come-first-served basis (so arrive early and note the website still says starting time of 1 pm but that is incorrect and it will be updated). More details like the location are below. If you plan on coming to the panel discussion, please send a note to and I at TXDirector@... so we can make sure we keep our eyes out for you to say hello. Families in Texas have a rich and committed history to fighting for vaccine exemptions and the right to make informed voluntary healthcare decisions for themselves and their children. We are so honored that the directors and producers have chosen Texas to be the place where this educational documentary film is introduced to the world, and this is in part to the hard work and advocacy all of you have done over the last 15 years! Looking forward to seeing many of you in Dallas! Sincerely, Dawn and Rex Co-Founders, PROVE http://vaccineinfo.net Here is what is posted on the NVIC Web site containing more specific information and links about the movie and activities you can participate in: New Vaccine Documentary World Premieres in Dallas The World Premiere of a new feature documentary on vaccination, “The Greater Good,” will be held at the Dallas Film Festival on April 2-3, 2011. The 82-minute movie has been produced by award winning film directors, editors, animators and photographers and has been nominated by the Dallas Film Festival for the Silver Heart Award and the Target Documentary Competition. The film will also be screened at Arizona International Film Festival in Tucson on April 12; at Lincoln Center in New York City in May and at Autism One in Chicago on May 26. Bringing the Bigger Picture Into Focus The storyline for “The Greater Good” movie centers on three families, whose lives have been changed by vaccine reactions, and features interviews with pediatricians, public health officials, scientists, consumer activists, attorneys and vaccine developers. NVIC’s work and perspective on vaccine safety and informed consent issues is included in the film. In a statement of purpose, film producers Manookin Bradshaw, Kendall and Pilaro, said “These days, vaccination ranks alongside religion and politics as one of those subjects “not to discuss around the Thanksgiving table.” The Greater Good aims to change that. The film takes a step back from the recent divisiveness, discusses the issue's complexity and nuances, and brings the bigger picture into focus. We strive to create a safe space to bring rational and reasonable ideas back to this important discussion.” Coping With Vaccine Injury & Death A portrait of what a Gardasil vaccine injury looks like is brought into sharp focus in the story of pain and courage told by 16 year old Gabi Swank and her Mom, Schrag in Kansas. The tragedy of losing a baby daughter after several rounds of vaccinations is described by Dr. Christner and her husband, Danny, in Oklahoma as they plea for more physician and parent education. The reality of what it is like to raise a vaccine injured son with autism becomes clear when My and Fred King talk about their hopes and fears in Portland. Also appearing in the film are Norman Baylor, PhD, MS; Conway, JD; Barbara Loe Fisher; Gentry, JD; Green, MD; Diane Harper, MD, MPH, MS; Offit, MD; Walter Orenstein, MD; Lawrence Palevsky, MD; Sears, MD; Shaw, MD; Clifford Shoemaker, JD and Melinda Wharton, MD.
