Gilani orders completion of first liver diseases centre at PIMS

ISLAMABAD, Apr 18 (APP):Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday directed

operationalization of country’s first “Liver Diseases and Transplant Centre”

(LDTC) by the end of May.The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Health to

equip the centre with modern medical facilities that meet international

standards. He directed that the best professionals be hired to provide quality

health care to the hepatitis patients.

The directives were made by the Prime Minister during a presentation by the

Ministry of Health here on LDTC at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences

(PIMS), Islamabad.

Gilani also asked that the first liver transplant operation be conducted in

June and that the poor and needy patients suffering from hepatitis be provided

free treatment.

He said that a board be constituted with eminent individuals from various

fields and professionals to identify the genuine needy and deserving patients.

Prime Minister Gilani launched the project on Nov 4, 2010 while launching Prime

Minister’s programme for hepatitis prevention and control.

The Liver Diseases Transplant Centre (LDTC) is a landmark project of the

present government to be run by local experts.
