Hepatitis Expert to Report on Risk Among Hispanics

A liver disease expert will discuss the problem of hepatitis infection among

Hispanics at a UT Dallas Center for U.S.-Mexico Studies lecture on Monday, March

31.

Dr. Rita Lepe specializes in liver diseases in the Hispanic population,

hepatitis C and transplant hepatology. Her talk is a 7 p.m. in the Jonsson

Academic Center (JO 4.614).

She works at Baylor University Medical Center-Dallas Clinic. She is a member of

the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American

Association of Gastroenterology.

Lepe’s lecture, titled “The Prevalance of Hepatitis in Hispanics: Implications

for Future U.S. Mexico Health Care,” is co-sponsored by the UT Dallas Pre Health

Program and Office of International Student Services.

Dr. Lepe has published in specialized journals and frequently lectures on the

challenges of health care in the context of the Hispanic population impact in

the United States.

Lepe pursued her medical studies at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara,

Jalisco, Mexico; residency at the Chicago Medical School; and a fellowship in

gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
