Hi Totmon!

Thought I would pass on what my pediatrician in Memphis told me. He told me

not to worry about my children catching anything from others at school because

my children would have what he called " herd immunity. " Meaning that the

children they played with had had their immunizations and therefore couldn't

catch anything to pass on to my children. If immunizations are as good as

they are touted to be, then this makes since, right?

Also, I would take a close look at the package insert for contraindications

listed. That might help in your defense concerning neurological injuries. At

least it would be a good education to read those things.

Hi, I am also new to this list. I am the mother to a a 4 year old who

suffered vaccination encephalitis at age 25 months to the tetramune(dtp +

Hib) vaccination. As a result, he has been diagnosed with autism, severe

multiple food allergies, allergic seizures, allergy induced behavioral

changes, etc... It is a quite complicated long story, so if anyone is

interested in more details let me know. I am not anti-vaccine, but feel a

parent needs to make an informed descion. Our daughter has been selectively

vaccinated, but a parent has a legal right to not vaccinate. I did not know

this until after the fact. There are religious, personal and medical waivers

availabe, but laws vary by state. Our children aer exempt under medical

waivers due to the documented vaccination reaction.

I recommend those who are exploring both sides of the vaccine issue read- A

shot in the dark by Coulter or Vaccines-Are they really safe and

effective by Neil . I have coorsponded with several parents of

autistic children damaged by vaccines. Most have similiar issues to

Tyler's. Does your child has food allergies or behavioral changes

associated with exposure to certain foods, chemicals or environmental

factors?

Lastly, anyone interested in more on vaccine reactions ... watch 20/20

tonite on ABC they are airing a segment on the Hepatitis B vaccine and

adverse vaccination reaction.

You have every right to be concerned that the vaccinations led to your sons

autism. Many studies show that many neorological disorders as well as

asthma, leukemia and cancer have been on the rise since mass vaccination

was started. I can sympathize with your fear - I was there - but keep in

mind that the more information and knowledge you gain, the less you fear.

The first step is to research each specific disease they have on their

'schedule' - find out how much of a threat it really is. I've found that

most of the diseases are fairly harmless. Measles/mumps/rubella and

Chicken pox where once considered 'normal' for children to endure and in

turn gained life long immunity (something that no vaccine can gaurantee!).

The only reported cases of polio (here in the US) are CAUSED by the

vaccine. Also keep in mind that NO vaccine is 100% effective. Epedemics

are still occuring in fully vaccinated populations!

It's assuring to know what your getting into - how to treat each illness

(whether medically or herbally) - and have good support and doctors who

will help you if and when you are in need.

As for your right - we all have the right to exempt from vaccinations

whether it is medically, religously or philisophically (depending on your

state) Here in GA, I am exempt religously - I created my own exemption form

(including GA code) and had it notarized. Although I plan on

homeschooling, public schools can not (legally) deny your child of an

education if it goes against your beliefs. Good luck and we are all here

C.A....what exactly is this group you are a part of...and how did your

chiropractor get it started??? We would really like to increase his

Thanks so much for the weblink and e-mail address. My husband attended

Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in SC. (That is where we met, in

SC...I grew up there). I look forward to talking with Dr. Sheppard about

increasing our pediatric base.

Hi Camille!

There is a website for his office and the group at

We are still defining our group but basically we send out newsletters to help

educate and stayed informed on health issues. We also hold lectures every

few months that our chiropractor gives. Currently they cover vaccinations,

ritalin, how to have a drugfree family, how chiropratic fits in to all of

this among some other topics.

Dr. Sheppard's main focus is kids. He has an area setup in his office where

he has books and information on kids and their health issues. He also has

tables that he has made for him that are made to look like animals. My

daughter has been going to him since she was about 3 months old. He has a

head piece toggle that he uses for infants. He had a kids area built in his

office which has a tv with videos playing on it and toys. He also takes

pictures of the kids and posts them on his walls. That is kind of a

description of what his office is like.

Good for you for sticking to your guns! I think that

you should sue the hospital. Not that I'm sue happy or

anything, but if more parents started hitting the

doctors and hospitals where they really feel it (sadly,

in their pocketbooks), maybe more parents would be

informed of risks and alternatives.

Good, don't give them anything.

Get the kids out if you have not been served with a court order. Get them

out of state if you can.

If you still have your kids, I cannot stress strongly enough to get them

out. Get out with them if you can. If not, you have the potential to face

contempt of court charges for not revealing where they are. It's your

decision to take that risk. But if you have the kids safe somewhere, you

still win. Take them out of school, home school them if possible.

welcome. i agree with you, it is frightening indeed, when we run the risk of

having our children taken away by a government agency, just because we

question a common medical practice. very sad indeed. but... welcome to the

list. i do not know the answer to your question regarding the hep b vax, but

am very interested in hearing what other, more knowledgeable people on this

list have to say about it. good luck in your midwifery schooling--i have

recently become very intersted in this topic, as i am planning on having my

next child (i am not currently pregnant--just had my last baby in oct.1999)

at home and most likely in the water (i belong to a waterbirth list here at

egroups and i love all the info i get there from other moms and midwives).

good luck in getting the answers you need and hope to talk to you again.

Dear Peggy

If you had your surgery when you were twelve, chances are that your fusion

is solid and you might not need the instrumentation anymore. The best will

be to have the fusion checked by a specialist who would be able to address

your fears. Also make sure that you have your hypothyroidism taken care of,

as the thyroid is involved with calcium metabolism.

Hi Peggy,

I have the same problems--although they are still testing my thyroid. I

am beginning to think that the osteoporosis IS LINKED to scoliosis and

also fibromyaligia IS LINKED to scoliosis as well. It becomes a

secondary problem due to muscle fatigue, etc. I don't like to talk

about my fibromyalgia because " it " is so " controversial " but it is a

very significant problem.

The osteoporosis in my spine is definitely related to the scoliosis. Since the

bone in that area is " never used or exercised " with the fusion, the bone

deteriorates. But I also have it in my hips and they have found no reason for

it to be that way.

There are several egroups for fibromyalgia. Have you joined one? I find them

helpful because they all have fibro, they've all been told it's in their heads

when we know it is not, and they truly understand what we go through each and

every day. It's been a great support.

Hi Liz,<br>I think most of us have to manage

weight with diets too. While it is nearly impossible to

LOSE weight with untreated hypothyroidism, diets are

still needed after treatment for many of us. I can tell

you I can't eat what I want....I still put on weight

pretty quick if I don't watch what I eat!<br><br>Good

Hi Bev - I'm going in a few weeks to see my

doctor and I'm going to find out what my TSH level is,

and no I've never had a weight problem. Guess I'm

lucky! It's probably catch up me in time though.

<br><br>I started on Synthroid too, but now I'm on Levoxyl

50 MCG, but I don't feel too bad, so that dose is

probably doing it for me. <br><br>Debbie
