Guest guest
Hi e, I sure hate to hear of someone as young as you having to go through this, but I do think that if your knee is hampering your quality of life you have definitely made the right decision. More and more I hear about knee replacements that are so successful pain wise and so it's very encouraging to me also as I am awaiting a surgery date still. I am sure there will be pain, but it also gets better every day and right now the pain is getting worse every day. So think good thoughts about how wonderful you will feel and how much fun you will have during the summer!! sandie <brandieandnathan@...> wrote: my name is brandie and i am 20 years old. i will be undergoing a total knee replacement of my left knee on april 14th. i will be receiving a cementless replacement. Ive had 3 athroscopies, one on my right knee, two on my left. I'm very very concerned about the pain. the doctors are saying they will have me weight bearing the day after surgery, i dont know about that. lolim also the youngest person my surgon has ever replaced a knee on. they are planning to give me a spinal injection and a nerve block so i wont be able to feel my knee for a few hours after sugery.basically, i was wondering how much pain everyone was in , in the following days/weeks after surgery. what kind of pain medicine did they give you to go home on?id love any information you guys can give me.thanks alot.-eage 20. Guest guest
---I think what is happening is that your messages are bouncing. When I posted a couple times, I looked in the bouncing file to see if mine were bouncing and there were 157 members bouncing. Mine weren't though. I don't know if our moderator knows of this, but the reason I know of it is because I have a board for obesity, and I check frequently to see if any members or messages are bouncing. The moderator can add that person again if they are bouncing. Are you sending the messages by coming directly to the board, or are you sending them from your email address? Hope this helps. Maybe you can send a private email to the moderator and ask her to check it out. ..... Guest guest
Dear , Hello! I am happy to meet you. Yes, you are going to be happy you had your knees done. I have one knee that is a year old and one knee that is 8 months old. I am still excited at how they feel. I have no pain in either one of them, and my legs feel young and strong and sturdy. I noticed the other day when my shoe caught in a rug, that my knee kept me from falling sideways. Now that is a first in ten years or more! What you are experiencing is most likely what we all have had, at one point or another: depression. And this, too, will pass! I thought I was ready to dig and hole and jump in for a while. Hang on, and keep talking here. We are solidly with you! All of us! Just watch what happens as a result of your post. Hugs Marge I was hoping I would find something to help me thru this process.I guess I'm just hoping someone will be able to encourage me I will getbetter and it will be worth it because right now I'm not feeling thatway. I'm not at the point where I'm happy I had the surgery yet. Ialmost feel like I'll never be normal again or walk normal. I keepasking everyone to give me rough estimates on when I can expect to feelbetter and of course, they all say it various from person to person. Iknow that, but it's still frustrating to me! Guest guest
, I am 49 and had bilateral TKR Dec.30. So, I am at about 12 weeks now. Yes, I went through a lot of depression off and on. My therapists all tell me how great I am doing, that I am progressing...but it never seemed fast enough. Still doesn't. I have just had to keep telling myself that it is going to happen. You have had major surgery. Your body went through a big trauma. Muscles have to rebuild. You have to be understanding of yourself. I'm a child care teacher, so I guess I have a little more patience than some people, and even I have had some real problems wanting to get going again, so I realize it must be even harder for some people.I finally got down on the floor for the first time a week ago, using a chair and a stepstool. Yesterday I got down and up without a chair or stepstool. I am already being able to use my knees without pain in ways that I hadn't been able to do for years. It is a slow process. But, it will happen. Good luck!! Cara White <jamessusanannajamie@...> wrote: Hi,I wanted to introduce myself. I had bilateral total knee replacements afew weeks ago. I'ma member of a few other groups regarding a previous surgery of mine, soI was hoping I would find something to help me thru this process.Everyone (medical personnel, friends, etc.) are telling me that I'mdoing great, but I don't "feel" it. It's been so tough physically andemotionally. I've been doing everything I've been told to do in orderto get well, but I think I'm too impatient. I really need to get backto work soon (like in 3 weeks) and if I don't get better quickly I'm notsure I'll be able to meet my goal.I was in the hospital from a Tuesday to a Saturday and then I was movedto a rehab facility and stayed there from Saturday until being releasedthe following Friday. It was a positive experience. I do my exercisesat home - I've been asked to do them twice a day except on rehab daysand then I only have to do them once at home. I go to outpatienttherapy 2 days a week.I guess I'm just hoping someone will be able to encourage me I will getbetter and it will be worth it because right now I'm not feeling thatway. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to hear that you have been sick and dealing with the abdominal pain. I know what that's like. Sorry also I haven't been as active as I probably should have been. I'm going to be moving in September so it will be an extremely busy time around then and planning on starting my own daycare. My daughter recently had to have tubes put in her ears. A little scary for me cuz automatically I think C-toma & I hope she doesn't have the same ear problems as I have. Well anyone interested in doing some light moderation and approval of posts sounds like a great idea. Anyone interested email either or I. I will also try to be more active in the weeks to come. I hope everyone is doing well & WOW this group is growing huge =)) See you around, Kim > Hi everyone, > > Sorry that I haven't wrote in awhile, but I have been sick. And I have a good idea that the Ibuprofen has been keeping my headaches away as well. Guest guest
So far I have lost almost 80lbs since being banded on March 1st. I want to lose about 45 more. I have the three cats now. Sammy who was a stray found behind loves truck stop here in Ranger. He is a grey and white long hair...looks like a persian. Then there is bandit AKA grumpy. He loves people, hates other cats. Him and sammy have a love/hate relationship. Then there is the new one...unnamed as of yet but I have a few good ones. The kids have thought of "Mufasa" because of the way he acts like a king, swishing his tail when he walks, and I am thinking "Harley" because he purrs so loud(but isn't original). That most people have been ravenous with hunger, and I am one of the lucky few, that if I am hungry I get horrible headaches, and basically can't function at all. I am also worried about cutting out my caffeine before surgery due to the same headaches. I take 600mg Ibuprofen every day for back pain, and I will have to omit this 1 week before surgery as well. And I have a good idea that the Ibuprofen has been keeping my headaches away as well. I just think I am going to be in h*ll when my body realizes it is missing most of it's usual additives, so to speak. Has/Did any of you experience what I am talking about? I tried 1 day to do without, and didn't make it till 2pm when the migraines hit. And once they hit, no matter how much caffeine/medicine you take, it still takes me a whole entire day to get rid it. It's almost like once it hits, it's too late to do anything at all. I wonder if I still might be able to continue caffeine, if I stop Ibuprofen? I know why the ibuprofen must be stopped (bleeding during surgery), but dehydration I can combat afterwards, as long as I know those massive headaches won't start. I have had anesthesia before, and don't remember them ever telling me to stop caffeine, and I also didn't wake up with any headaches either. I can stop one, but stopping both will probably kill me (not literally, but I will probably wish it). Any comments/suggestions to this problem? Guest guest
When looking for a job this is what I had done for my part-time evening job. Jobs in general are a bit difficult to find. First I make a huge list of places that I want to apply at and go to each of them or most. I use the Yellow Pages to help with my list. I kept track of every place I applied, how I applied (paper & walk in or online) and their contact information along with the date I applied. After a day or two I applied say at 10 places. A week later I would do two things, Follow up on the each place and say " Hi, I applied last week and I am calling to set up an interview " . They will either say they are not hiring, they will call, or set up the interview. The second thing I do, while I am setting up the interviews I would apply at several other places and keep going. After applying at 20 places or so I could have about 5 interviews. Most opportunities will not work out, and this is due to jobs availability and how many people are applying and what they are looking for. I never apply and NOT do a follow up. I never wait for them to contact me. I never go a less than week or more than a week and a half to do a follow up. By then they should have the opportuntiy to review my application. My best friend has this habit of Applying at one place and wait two weeks. If she doesn't hear from them after two weeks she will either call and do a follow up or just forget about them " because they arent worth it. " Then after two weeks of waiting on a responce for that job with no response, she will apply at another place. This way it would take her forever to get just an interview or much less a job. If you do a follow up it could show the employer that you are serious about the job and that you are willing to go the extra mile and could be a good employee for them. You show that you are a " Go Getter " type of person! Basically, Apply, Follow up, while waiting apply at other places, and follow up again. a > > I have apply at several places turn in my resume. But never heard > anything from them for a interview. I have called one place and said > haven't looked over your application yet. Guest guest
Hi ! Have you found out if your insurance company will pay for your child's cochlear implant? I would suggest that you do your homework and research the cochlear implant. Although everyone's experiences are different, there is one common thread. It is very, very, very, very important to go back to the CI center for mappings (software programming) often the first year. I think for children, the mappings are more frequent than for adults. Some adults have frequent mappings. I had two mappings the first week, one mapping one month later, another mapping three months after surgery, another mapping six months after surgery then another one before the one year anniversary of my activation. I think I should have had more mappings. Having a cochlear implant is a great responsibility. With a CI, the child will need auditory verbal therapy or some kind of auditory therapy to assist in learning how to hear with the CI. I love my CI and the frequent mappings really helps me! I still go back for mappings whenever I feel I need a new map. I continue AVT and I think I will continue for five more years but it is worth it! Good luck! A. Guest guest
,that's exactly why I joined this group, too, because of CSI mentioning it the other day. My husband is the one with one blue eye and one brown eye with some of the blue from the other eye bleeding in. His eye colors are very subtle and not noticed by most. I thought I'd join here and read a bit more about it if I could. I looked on Google images to find some more of these beauties and there were some especially one somber looking young boy that had very gorgeous eyes. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. I'm an adult who has been deaf since birth. I did well on hearing aids but then lost my residual hearing in my better ear last year. I'm waiting (as patiently as I can!) for my implant. I can't wait to hear again. Good luck with your daughter's CI process. I am a mum to a three year old and can appreciate the worry that goes into trying to make the right decisions for your child. I am so grateful to my mother who took active control of my early years as a deaf child. in Australia Approved for CI 2/06 Implant - who knows??? _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of dithompson75 Sent: Wednesday, 15 February 2006 9:50 AM Subject: hello Hi!!
