Guest guest
I'm 64 and I'm having to beg to get mine done. It's because I don't have arthritis. I "only" have grade IV chondromalacia (lifestyle-limiting) and menisci that are falling apart (very limiting). I think doctors should have to go to a class in thinking outside the book. Guest guest
I had to donate two pints of my own blood for my first TKR sand did not need it. This time I opted not t donate and didn't need any transfusion either. You can built up the blood loss if it is two pints. There was no need and giving blood bugged me. Guest guest
Hi Tami, I had a LTKR in March and I was off work for 4 months. My surgery was a bit more complicated than most others (I was in the OR for almost 5 hours) and was in the hospital for 5 days. My knee was pretty screwed up to begin with, I had lots of hardware in there that had to be removed, and had 4 previous surgeries. Like they say, everyone heals at a different pace. And you're young so I bet you'll heal faster. I'm 5 months post-op now and doing great...and the best thing is NO PAIN like I had before. Good luck!! Guest guest
Tami, At the hospital I was at it was mandatory you donated 2 pints of blood. Lucky for me my husband is the same type as me, so he gave me one of his It was also mandatory you went to these classes on TKR. As for driving, it was about 6 weeks till I drove, but it was only like a block away to my PT. We live way out in the boonies and I'd have to get on the freeway to go anywhere....my work is 45 miles one way. So no driving for me for a long time. I couldn't climb up in my SUV anyway!!! Oh yea, I should clarify something about my answer to your previous post about the length of being off work. I was off work for so long because I am on my feet walking around alot at work. There was no way I could have gone back there till my ROM was better. Now my job gives me lots of PT as well. Guest guest
john,i have been with the group for several years and the atmosphere has changed time and time again. i guess "evolves"is a good way to put it. right now we are at a very relaxed and friendly stage. to me the way it should be! but there have been times when someone with a problem, other than a hip, have been made almost not welcome. or other times when off topic or friendly chatter was un-welcome. we now have a group of adults (i've been called otherwise) that understand each other and KNOW what the delete button is for. we know the difference between off-color and disgusting. we also understand that a "smart" reply/comment is not always mean spirited. the moderators and time have both been good for this group and i hope it stays this way for a long time! w. coffey (gimpy)

Guest guest
I live in Tampa FL and I have been flying back and forth to MX...I either go on the fill date or cheapest air fare. The lowest I have found round trip is $218 out of Tampa. I spend $80 for the fill and another $80 if I spend the night. The whole thing is around $378 for a fill. I haven't found a dr in the area who will give me a fill plus flurosopy. The closest I have come is the Miami area Dr Henandez-Cruz (I think). With gas and the 8 hour trip...I decided just to fly back and forth. Hope this helps...I have had 2 fills...just came back from my second one. Absolutely none of them will take a patient who has not had their surgery done by them; not for fills, or even check-ups.Is it going to be easier just to fly back to Mexico each and every time I need to be checked or filled? Although not very convenient, it seems to be my only option at this moment.

Guest guest
I think you're absolutely right Dee, it's going to be easier just to plan my trips back to Mexico. Not only as far as expense, but at least Dr. Aceves knows his own work and I trust him to have my best care in his hands. So it is true that Type O does better on more protein - the reason is that ion Type O, non-protein is burned up too fast and they get hungry too soon after eating non-protein - and they need more protein to maintain a feeling of being able to function without being hungry. Even the kind of protein that works best for a particular blood type varies: For example I am a type O-negative - and we need more protein than a type O-positive. For me it REALLY matters what protein I get: I can eat chicken but will feel hungry again in less than an hour after eating chicken. But if I eat the same amount of beef - I will not get hungry for 4 hours. So if I want to lose weight (as I do) I will eat plenty of beef and I'll avoid chicken. That way I do not feel hungry too often, and will not get fat from eating too often:-) For me to eat beans and rice instead of meat for protein, will make me into an elephant - as I will stay so hungry I will not stop eating. If you look around at vegetarians - you will see that those who are Type O are very obese, especially if they are O-negative :-) And even if they can avoid obesity, their bodies are so inflamed from incorrect diet for them, that they will tend to have inflamamtory illnesses like fibromyalgia, arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes etc. Vegetarians of Type A usually also do not know enough to eat a healthy balanced diet - but if they are careful, they will have less ill health than Type O *if* they choose to be vegetarian. NOBODY is designed to be vegetarian - so I am NOT suggesting type A people should try to be vegetarian - on the contrary. But Type A will do better on chicken and badly on beef and will do fine on beans and greens for example - opposite to me. Does that explain it a bit better? Dr D'ADamo has put together the research on the healthiest way to eat fo reach blood type. His book " Eat right 4 Your Type Encyclopedia " lists what is good, better or worse, for each blood type, as far as we know so far - which is getting to be quite comprehensive now. So it is not a matter of addiction - but rather a matter of what works best to be healthiest for each blood type. Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc AASCA MCSSA D.I.Hom/D.Vet.Hom. P.O. Guest guest
Irene, Your post prompts this thought from me -- I seem to constantly be hungry regardless of what I eat, unless I eat some small wheat thing, after which I feel like I'm just ... full, but not pleasantly. I'm still breastfeeding, but not tons (my dd is 18 mo). I often feel that when I start eating I feel like I could keep eating forever! Usually I stop just because I need to do other things, not because I'm stuffed/full. My default is to eat more meat, but I know D'Adamo says even Os shouldn't belly up to a 16 oz steak regularly. Just curious -- does anyone else have these results? Marie
Guest guest
Thank you for your help but i must say i feel the same way (as if i'm " o " negative coz i can't stop feeling hungry when i eat certain kind of meat)well i'm not fat i'm just a little bit choppy ppl say i don't need to lose weight coz it's nice to look a bit curvy but i'm trying to lose it for a simple reason " someday i might not control my hunger " and the reason why i asked the question before is becouse i love carbohydrates more than protein and my diet is based on carbohydrates more often than protein! _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! I disagree with him. I have a metabolic disease to feed rather than a baby to feed - but I HAVE to eat at LEAST a pound of beef daily - or two - and if I do not, my health goes downhill and I get fat. My answer is to do a microwave beef roast weekly or twice weekly - whenever I run low - and slice it very thick, and keep the slices handy to snack on in the fridge any time. I also keep mixed nuts handy to snack on. Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc AASCA MCSSA D.I.Hom/D.Vet.Hom. P.O. Guest guest
Me, too! Steak for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is my idea of a good day! Thanks, Irene, for " permission " to eat lots of beef. It is the only thing I eat that makes me feel like I am being nourished (along with vegetable). Also, I have a question about olive oil. I ran out of it about two weeks ago and I have been having lots of increased inflammation in an area of my body that was previously injured and I have been receiving care for. I've regressed and the only thing that has really changed is that I stopped eating olive oil (and I haven't been able to buy more yet). Thank you so much. I love the info I get here.
