If you have an opinion about the exploitation of the vulnerability of

children as young who are powerless to say, NO, to harmful drug

expperiments, let your voice be heard. You can help bring about a

rational public policy that sets ethical and legal limits on what

medical researchers can and cannot do to children.

Academic institutions can no longer be trusted to keep faith with the

public's moral expectations. They have lost their way and embraced

bottom line corporate ethics.

Taxpayers need to exert the power of the purse to purge the academy

of a culture of self-interest.

Antipsychotic drug experiments on young children are an example of

medicine gone out of control. Such experiments are a throw-back to

those conducted on mentally retarded children at Willowbrook--and

before that, to the inhumane refrigeration experiments conducted in

1941 by Harvard Medical School psychiatrists, Dr. Talbott and

Dr. Tillotson, on mentally ill patients. For a description

(Perseus) Chapter 4.
