"It is clearly wrong to expose citizens to any kind of treatment just so that they can keep their unemployment benefits. This has been established through several court rulings," Kirsten Ketscher, a professor of social security law at the University of Copenhagen, told public broadcaster DR. According to Ketscher, this practice is not only at odds with Danish law, it may also be in violation of human rights. In one case involving a woman from the Jutland council of Struer, the Social Appeals Board ruled that the council could not require her to take medication in order to receive her 15,000 kroner monthly benefit. Several politicians have aired their concern about the issue and have called on Inger Støjberg, the employment minister, to set the local authorities straight.
