Guest guest
The deadline to sign is October 5, 2008.http://www.mindfreedom.org/petition/military-mental-health/Petition: Stop the Psychiatric Drug Crisis in the US Military Please help MindFreedom make this an issue in the USA presidential race by signing the petition below. "It's not easy for soldiers to admit the problems that they're having over there for a variety of reasons. If they do admit it, then the only solution given is pills."- Sergeant LeJeune, quoted in Time magazineOur soldiers deserve better than a bag of pills. The suicide rate of those on active duty in the U.S. military is now at its highest point since they started keeping track in 1980.Suicide rates among veterans have also reached catastrophic levels, occurring at more than twice the civilian rate overall, and as high as four times the civilian rate among veterans aged 20 through 24, according to a report by CBS News.So far, the military's response to this crisis has mainly been one dimensional: prescription psychiatric drugs.According to Time magazine, "Nearly 40% of Army suicide victims in 2006 and 2007 took psychotropic drugs — overwhelmingly, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac and Zoloft."Those who serve in the U.S. military deserve a real voice in the care they receive, and access to effective, non-drug alternatives. Please sign the petition and join us in letting Barack Obama and McCain know that this issue matters and that drugs are not enough. For more information and citations on this topic, please click here.
