Lane was arrested Wednesday on 16 counts of child endangerment after an employee told police that Lane had mixed antihistamines with milk and gave the concoction to the children, Van Alystne Police Chief Spindle told ABCNews.com. It is unclear how long Lane had done this. “The day care was open yesterday, but I heard no one showed up, so it’s closed today,†said Chief Spindle, also  of the Van Alstyne Police Department. The children who attended the day care ranged from 20 months to 4 years old. Luv n Learning is now being investigated by Child Protective Services. Lane faces up to two years in prison and $10,000 in fines for each count of child endangerment. She is currently being held on $160,000 bond. Antihistamines do not have too many serious side effects, but they could interfere with children’s eating and sleeping patterns, said Dr. Ari Brown, a Texas  pediatrician and author of the book “Baby 411.†“The biggest concern here has to do with giving medicine without parents’ permission, and how often she was giving it to them,†said Brown. “The antihistamine probably wouldn’t cause a dependency when trying to sleep, but sometimes if they sleep several hours it could certainly disrupt nighttime sleep.†Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T
