Trooper in murder-suicide had no alcohol or drugs in system

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A toxicology test found no traces of alcohol or

drugs in the body of state Trooper Victor , who town police say killed

his former girlfriend and himself in November.

, 37, shot Newington police Officer Ciara McDermott, 30, to death before

turning the gun on himself at McDermott's home, police said.

Results of the test, performed by Toxicology Associates Inc. in Columbus,

Ohio, came back this week, providing police with one of the final pieces

that investigators were waiting for to close the case. The test checked for

13 types of steroids and other drugs.

Police Chief Strillacci said the Ohio company did the steroid tests

because the chief medical examiner's office and the state toxicology

laboratory don't have the capability to check for steroids.

The other final piece of the investigation was 's phone records, which

police also recently received. Strillacci said called only his lawyer

and his former troop commander on the day of the killings _ calls that

investigators already knew about.

Police earlier this year released a 274-page investigation report of the

Nov. 21 murder-suicide. Investigators said in the report that there was

evidence that had been taking antidepressants and/or body building

enhancers.

Authorities said they found an empty bottle of Abilify, a drug used to treat

bipolar disorder, in 's car. At his brother's home in Windsor, where

had been living for several months, police also found an empty bottle

of Trazadone, an antidepressant, and Winestral Veca, a synthetic growth

hormone.

was serving a 60-day suspension from his job in connection with a

drunken driving arrest at the time of his death. He was also facing new

allegations of improperly using a statewide police data base to look up the

license plate of a car parked in McDermott's driveway.
