Concerning Ray Stanford

Dear Honorable Governor Pawlenty,

As you are probably aware by now one of your constituents is

being electroshocked against his will.

Ray Stanford should have the right to refuse this treatment and he has

definitely expressed his wish to not receive any more.

Electroconvulsive treatment has had a very sordid history, some few

feel it helped but many many more would tell you, if they are willing

to even talk about it, that it was a nasty treatment and they felt horrible

afterwards. I have talked to many people who have endured ECT and

I can honestly say only an extreme minority felt it helped at all and

only then for a while.

1. The symptoms from electroshock are very similar to head injury.

2. The same current run through your chest would kill you.

3. ECT always causes brain damage and yet the effects only last

for around 6 months. Then the person is back to being depressed

and now has memory loss and many times an inability to work.

4. Peggy Salters was a nurse who had electroshock in Georgia and

she was able to prove that she now cannot work and won in court.

5. I know that Ray has a conservator/guardian and that person needs

to be investigated as anyone who would force someone to take this

very controversial treatment that has known permanent damage may

have some skeletons in the closet or financial insentive.

6. Ray may be deemed by a court to be unable to take care of himself

but does he really not have any say over what happens to his body?

Please understand that this treatment makes money for someone and

it is simply immoral and a serious sign of our times that a poor soul like

Ray may be tortured over his protests.

Some side effects culled from Medical Journals include:

Vision Problems

Weakness on either side of body

Blood pressure

Seizures

Headaches

Memory Loss

Lack of Balance

Heart problems

Chest pains

Nausea

Panic Attacks

Insomnia

Shakes, tremors

Hand clench involuntarily, any involuntary body movement

Mental ability decreased

Thank You,

Jim
